thanks for all answers, i let my reluctant hubby read them, and have progressed to leaving a message with Animal Rescue, to get back to me about giving a loving dog a good home.
Will you wish me luck, that i can find a lovely dog, to give a good home to, and make it part of our family?

Great job!! You did a really good thing, saving a needy animal. You sound like a caring owner and I'm sure whatever animal you chose will be blessed to be part of your family. Congratulations and good luck!!

Also, did you know there is fidofinder.com, where you can register your dog in case it gets lost, someone who finds it can let them know, &all before you may have noticed it was gone!
Maybe your Hubby would also read this set of articles, just great for new pet owners:

We have 2 large hard-to-keep dogs ... Breeds few are willing to take. I didn't even want dogs for awhile ... but there they were, & the shelters didn't have room. So here they are 3 1/2 years later. I've learned from them, & been more active because of them. They truly can be a learning experience! Even entertaining! (;

Good luck.....really. Dogs really make your life better. I have had my dog for a short 3 months and I totally could not live without her. You won't have trouble making it a part of your family....you naturally love it. I'm sure you will give it a great home.....anyone who works that hard will!
