Dogs - July 2006

I have a 6 month old JR puppy and I need help on housebreaking. And why does he alway try to bite my leg and feet? Can this be stopped. Whenever I put him on a leash, he won't walk, but once he's loose he runs like crazy and it's almost impossible to catch him. He's a very aggressive puppy and likes to bite.

I just got an 11 month old border collie/german shepherd mix. We took him to the dog park for the first time, and he got into a couple fights, so we had to keep him on a leash. I don't want to keep him on a leash every time we go, especially because we have another dog who runs free. How can we stop his agressive behavior?

I live near the woods and have seen small foxes. My dogs (10 and 13 lbs.) are in a fenced area by my house. I am worried about the foxes.

I'm positive that my dog is completely normal, however I can't tell if he is insistanting that he is being emotional over something. He is trained not to bark, but of course, no dog is perfect, he barks at visitors and passerbys by our house. He is terrified of loud fireworks, and that is obvious, hiding in corners whenever there is loud fireworks outside. But how can I tell what he likes or doesn't like I want to know of the thigs that are not so obvious? He's willing to eat anything you put in front of his face. I'm not an idiot, so I know if he will like cow or beef hides and such.

I think dogs are dogs, all animals are just animals! Why should they be thought of as humans?? They are treated very well, groomed, bathed, well fed, lots of attention..what more does he want???

My dog will not stop vomiting (it's yellowish in color) and he has diarreah really bad. It started while I was at work today. I did notice him acting really weird last night though, laying right next me the entire night, not playing or eating. I have cooked some plain white rice and tried giving him more water. He will not touch either of them. He keeps wanting outside so when I let him out he finds a spot to 'go' (number2) and tries but nothing is coming out. His stomach does appear to be hard. I have not changed his diet nor anything else in his routine, however, he did go to the vet 2 days ago for his distemperment shot. Surely the shot isn't making him do this, it didn't make him sick the last time he got his shots. Can I give him any pain relievers, what kind? how many miligrams? Oh and he will not stop panting, does he have a temp? How can I check that? Help!?!

I am looking for a puppy or young female or male Yorkshire Terrier. Somewhere in the mid west would be nice so I don't have to travel far. I would like it to be purebreed with papers if possible. She is about 15 lbs and is light brown and black. Her nose is pushed in and it is black all around the mouth and nose. The rest of her body is brown. She is about 1 foot tall. Her tail curled up like a pug's tail. I know it is not a pug though. I kind of looks like one, but with way longer fur. Her ears are floppy, but not long. Does anyone know what breed she is?

plain water just doesnt seem to do the trick for my 2 very active boxers. Even ice cubes dont help. Just wondering if gatorade was safe? I've seen a very expensive brand on the net, or if their was a more affordable brand that could be purchased at Petsmart or similar store.

With such a bad reputation, only 10% of pitbulls that go to shelters are adopted out. Plus it always makes me happy to know that people rescued/adopted pits rather than by them from pet stores or breeders!!!

It licks constantly at nothing !!! Just in the air ive noticed what mood its in when it does it but its always different let me know if there is a cure or if your pet has had this problem!

I have a Rat Terrier (her name is Peaches). She is white with blk spots (like a cow) with brown on her head and ears. People I run into at the dog parks say that she must be a mix, but she isn't. Her dad has AKC papers and her mom is full breed. I would like to see another dog like my Peaches.

Ok, so I'm going on a 3 day vacation to sixflags and I don't know what I can do with my two dogs. i can't take them with me (no dogs in the hotel) and i have no family members to watch them. Any suggestions?

3 days ago and she is sick. She didn't have great energy even Day 1, but we were hoping she was just calm. She really didn't dig into her food like a hungry puppy, but we were happy that she was drinking well. Last night she stoppped eating and drinking, was lethargic, runny eyes and nose, and had a dry cough, heavy breathing, and frequent gagging and bringing up mucousy stuff. My vet says, distemper, or pnemonia. Vet doubts kennel cough only because she looks so sick and has chect congestion and heavy breathing. Getting the total run-around form the pet store. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME IDEAS! The pet store says they will treat her and giver her back when she is "better". We lost our 15 year old yellow lab last month and our hearts are breaking! Our vet said just the work-up to see what is wrong is $600. Any advice would be so appreciated. Thank you!
