With such a bad reputation, only 10% of pitbulls that go to shelters are adopted out. Plus it always makes me happy to know that people rescued/adopted pits rather than by them from pet stores or breeders!!!

Yes I do. My staffy is a rescue. He is a nine year old American Staffordshire Terrier. I've had him for 7 years and he's a real gem.

No but I know people that have adopted them from shelters. When I was looking to adopt a dog a while back I was thinkign about getting a pit a while back but I found another dog. They are great dogs that are tarnished with a bad reputation. Given the right owners that are firm and know what they are doing, pit bulls are excellent dogs and I love them.

I know that most rescue groups and shelters do extra background checks when looking for pit bull adopters which is a good thing.....but I'm not sure how in depth the checks are. It upsets me when I see these dogs chained up behind fences or I see their owners that do things such as just casually look for other pit bulls that they can breed their dog with to make more money (true story, I saw someone on the street doing this).

I sure did. I rescue all my animals from a shelter. One of my cats I found in the bushes outside of my apartment when she was only about 1 month old.

I adopted a female pit when she was about 6 or 7 weeks. I also adopted my great dane. I adopt everything!lol There are good pet lovers left in the world.

I own a lab/pit mix that I adopted from a shelter in California. She was really malnourished when we got her, but she is doing great now. She's the sweetest dog ever! :) Demanding, but she's never been aggressive toward humans or other dogs at all. Maybe it's the lab in her, but I am a firm believer that the dog is almost never the problem - 99% of the time it's the owner.
