All species with relatively small heads were designed for speed, whereas all species with large, strong jaws were designed to stand and fight.

Wouldn't a thin, narrow breed look awful silly with a big chunky pit bull type head? Not to mention it would be pretty hard to breed them with narrow bodies, long necks and chunky heads, probably impossible. It would also be hard for them to carry a chunky head on such a slim, long neck, much less go 35mph with it. Form follows function. Chunky or blocky does not equal fast.

They are sight hounds. Head/eyes for following/chasing prey.

Aw c'mon...what a silly question. They're sighthounds! ALL sighthounds are narrow & deep chested -to varying degrees...for RUNNING *VERY* fast!
