Dogs - July 2006

I put her to bed around 10 or 11pm & then around 3am she whines and has to go wee.Should I let her out or should I try to make her hold it.Also after she goes she crys to get out of her kennel.What should I do??

I have a Bichon Frise and he is 9 years old. I go to pet him and i'll touch his leg and he yelps, and he's limping. I dont know if he has a sliver or a bruse. I dont know what it is. But it makes me sad when I see him limp like that he cant even jump on the couch any more. :( What am I suppose to do? plz help me!! thanx

Just love stories of the kind pet-loving people out there who have at one point saved/rescued a dog and brought it up as their own? My friend found a young husky abandoned in a snowy forest in Northern Ontario, it had got lost from its pack and was on deaths door but he took it home and its been his ever since. Do you have any rescue stories?

My dog that never barks while she is awake will bark so loud when she sleeping she will wake us all up. Its really stange because she doesn't usually bark.

My family has a great little puppy, about 6 months old. She listens very well and is great with the kids. But she chases cars coming up and down our road. With live on a private dirt road with only two neighbors, so it's not a big deal but I'm terrified she'll get brave enough to follow all the way to the highway and get hurt, or worse.

it looks like she's sitting down, and scoots a few feet across the floor, smells the area she scooted on, then goes about playing and stuff.

My Golden Retriever (6 months) likes to dip her paws in her water dish and splash it all over the floor. If I am in a hurry I slip in it and almost fall. Have tried placing a cookie sheet under it but that doesn't help much and I have to keep cleaning the rust off it. Does anyone else have this problem?

Our Jack Russell has always been a growler if bothered when comfortable. We've had a new puppy for three weeks and they are not getting along. The Jack Russell growls and even attempts to bite the new puppy if her territory is invaded. What do we do?

I have a Miniature Pinscher who does not like other dogs very much. She definitely has an Alpha personality. I would like to get another small dog (a puppy), someone for her to become friends with (if she doesn't attack it first!). Does the gender of the new puppy make a difference? I've heard that if I get a male puppy, she would get along better than if it was a female. Or does "getting along with other dogs" have nothing to do with the sex of the dog? When she sees other dogs outside, she goes crazy, it doesnt matter if its a male or female. She is very territorial. Should I get a male or female, or no dog at all?

I got two puppies from somebody for the first time, and I don't really know anything about feeding pets. I think they are Dachshunds. One of them is 0-1 year old but I have know idea how old the other one is. They are not big but not too small. I'm a total beginner so please answer some questions for me!

1) I don't even know what kind of dog food I should buy. Could you give me some basic ideas on what I can give them?

2) Do they also eat breakfast, lunch & dinner, like humans? Or do they only eat once a day?

3) I saw a lot of biscuits at Petco. Are biscuits enough as a meal?

4) Is it okay to give them fries or a small piece of burger?
any other tips?

he's a long-haired chihuahua and i give him baths like twice a month and after i get him all dried off and brushed and to the point where he looks REALLY nice and his fur is all shiny and combed, he just runs around the house rolling around on the floor and acting like an idiot and messing up his fur!!!
is there any way i can get him to wait at least an hour before runnin around so at least i won't feel like spending all that time brushing him was a waste? lol i kno this is a stupid question but it really bugs me.
