Yes, we dont euthanize human children that have no families and do not get adopted. In fact if someone started doing that to lets say children in Africa that have no parents because they died of aids...it would be considered a heinous crime. Why is it that killing animals for basically the same reason (they have no one to take care of them) acceptable? Because humans seem to think that our lives are more valuable than an animals life, instead having to be responsible for the dog they chose to get it is acceptable in society to "get rid of" the dog after you decide you want to have a human child, or you have to move, or its just takes to much work to properly take care of the dog. Since no one else wants to take care of the dogs they kill them which is a brutal crime but acceptable because people in general dont value non human life and since the people that do are a minority and take as many animals as they can properly take care of and provide for and still more and more people "get rid of" dogs every day, it is impossible to keep up...with more dogs than people that want them or are held accountable for thier care. and though it breaks the hearts of the people that see it being done financially there is nothing they can do, but sit back and save as many from the slaughter as humanly possible.Even worse is some of the truly caring people that have to carry out the deed because they would rather see a dog die under a needle rather than starve to death because no one will feed or care for it. It is still wrong but they are doing it for the right reason, it isnt the people who kill the dogs that are at fault they are only trying to prevent suffering at the cost of thier own conscience and emotional health...because they are the ones who have to clean up after uncaring people who throw away thier lifetime commitment to a living breathing feeling animal.

I think it is horrible that a dog (or any animal) doesn't get to live a life of love and happiness but there really is nothing else to do if the dog has behavior problems and can't get adopted. They don't have to feel the pain of not having anyone to love them for the rest of their life, and euthanasia is a humane way to put any animal out of it's misery!

I would like to say that I disagree with euthanasia when it comes to dogs without homes, but I don't. Animals are my life, but I understand that rescue groups only have so much room, they are non-profit organizations and in order to continue helping the stray, abandoned, or abused animal population, they have to at some point "make more room". I understand the reasons behind it, but of course I would like much more to see all shelters become "no kill" shelters. It's just not realistic. There would be a chance if there were a more in depth interveiw or background checks and requirements in order to own a pet. People are gonna throw away their animals, not everyone has a heart, and we just have to suffer the inevitable. It's responsible people that give the animals a hope, or a chance in the future. REMEMBER TO SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PETS!! (or you're as bad as "they" are if you contribute to the stray epidemic!)

Yes,I think it's wrong but it's necessary.
If more people would spay and neuter their pets and be more responsible about owning a dog or cat there would'nt be so many unwanted animals in the pounds. They only have so much room to keep them and twice that amount of animals waiting to come in so what else can be done?

What is truly wrong here is that we need shelters for all the unwanted animals. Way, way too many animals being born.

And what else can you do with them, keep them caged forever? That seems very wrong also.

And for everyone that thinks all shelters should be "no-kill".... How much money, food, time do you contribute every week to help these animals?

Hell Yeah, its wrong. I don't like to even go to the pound because I can't take the sound of all the dogs barking for attention. Its so sad. They have sometimes hundreds of dogs and cats at any given time awaiting their doom.

h-e double hocky sticks YES it is compleatly mean to put a dog down if its in the pound and isnt adopted now if it is sick and the pound has no choice and it cant heal it then yea its fine but not if its a perfectly good puppy/dog/ anyother animal

not necessarily. some dogs stand a very small chance of being adopted if they have behavior/aggression issues. So how long do you keep them caged up? Months? Years? Dogs can literally lose their minds if they are caged too long. It's inhumane.

I agree with noname. Please have your pets sprayed or neutered. There is people that are homeless without food. I love my dogs and all my pets but I have taken the responsibly to care for them..People should all do the same make a choice to care for the ones they have and if they do not want more puppies stop and think.
