I have found that Rhodesian Ridgebacks are fiercley protective of thier owners at all times.

General Appearance
The Ridgeback represents a strong, muscular and active dog, symmetrical and balanced in outline. A mature Ridgeback is a handsome, upstanding and athletic dog, capable of great endurance with a fair (good) amount of speed. Of even, dignified temperament, the Ridgeback is devoted and affectionate to his master, reserved with strangers. The peculiarity of this breed is the ridge on the back. The ridge must be regarded as the characteristic feature of the breed.

Size, Proportion, Substance
A mature Ridgeback should be symmetrical in outline, slightly longer than tall but well balanced. Dogs--25 to 27 inches in height; Bitches--24 to 26 inches in height. Desirable weight: Dogs--85 pounds; Bitches--70 pounds.

Blame the DEED, not the BREED. There is no such thing as "the meanest" breed, it is how they are raised AND genetics. My dog went to classes, doggie day care, and is fed human grade dog foods and he has aggression issues. He was socialized since I got him (8 weeks old!) and he still has leash aggression and aggression towards men. He was raised in a loving home and he got (and still gets!) whatever he wants. I know that is half the problem, but I can't help myself! Anyway, we've come to find out that a lot of his aggression is him being protective of ME! I just went on vacation and we had to kennel him at the vet and they had no problems with him and didn't have to muzzle him at all. Just love your dog and socialize him and hope for the best.

Like breed or actual dog? I believe the meanest breed is the Pit Bull...or Akita..them some mean dogs.... Well then theres Rotty's.. but it all depends on how they are raised....

The one who was taught by a HUMAN to be mean, bite and bark. The one who was beaten, abused, starved, made to fight, and then ignored with no medical care. It happens because of stupid, ignorant, greedy, lazy, nasty, assholes who want a dog, then decide they really can't be bothered, unless there is some type of profit for them.

no dog is mean..it is the people who train/raise them and the environment that they grow up in that turns them mean...and for the record, PITBULLS ARE NOT MEAN..I have one and she's the sweetest dog in the world. She loves people, getting her bellyrubbed and Starbucks frappuccinos - not attacking people like most would say.

I can't say it much better than how Jenn said it. Don't have a pittbull, but I've seen enough to know there not a bad dog.

there is no such thing as "the meanest dog in the world." The time a dog can be named that is when you make it the meanest dog.
