it looks like she's sitting down, and scoots a few feet across the floor, smells the area she scooted on, then goes about playing and stuff.

what could this mean?

Thanks!

Thanks for the real details, like the BREED, AGE, whether she has had a litter... DUH!!!

I bet you think ALL breeds are the same, basically, right?

You know nothing of the anal glands in some breeds, and you didn't even disclose what worming and vaccs your dog had!

And, has she long or short trimmed hair??

Does she have her entire tail?

can we go somewheree to see a photo that is typical of her breed, hair style???

Simply, DUH!?

It he up to date with his worming if not that could be the problem. But more likely he needs his anal galnds emptied which is common in dogs. It is easily done if you know what you are doing but if you have never done it beofre you need to get the vet to do it and show you how for the furture. It is a bit of a smell job. It is not the poor dogs fault that he is scooting his butt across the carpet blocked anal gland cause irration. So get him a vet appointment.

This problem is usually due to a full anal sack. All dogs are born with anal glands in their butts. This is what dogs are smelling when they sniff at each other back there. It's their natural way to leave their scent. Most dogs' anal glands express or unload when the dog goes poop. Some dogs, however, have trouble expressing the glands themselves and need to have it done for them. Take your dog to your vet and they will do it for you. It usually only costs between ten and 15 dollars to do. If it is something other than the anal glands bothering her, the vet will be able to figure it out while you're there and will treat properly for you.

Worms or her anal glands needs draining and boy does that smell. Get a paper towel and below the tail and above the rectum push in slightly and squeeze gently. Oh yeah use a rubber glove if you do not have one use a plastic baggie to protected your hand. Don't forget the clothes pen for your nose lol. And worm her.

Could be she needs her anal glands drained. They may be infected or clogged naturally. It can also mean worms, and they are trying toitch their butt while scooting across the floor.

These people who have answered previously know very little about dogs. This behavior frequently means the dogs anal glands are full or even infected. A veternarian can empty them.

Your dog has worms, buy some dog wormer from the pet shop or walmart or whatever and put it in her food. She is scratching her but when she does that, then smelling the poop trail she just left in your house.

I know absolutely nothing about dogs, but it sounds like she has some kind of irritation in/on her rectum that she can't cure by licking alone. Take her to a vet.

Means you'll need to clean your carpet soon or tear it out! LOL She may have parasites. Maybe deworming is in order.
