My Golden Retriever (6 months) likes to dip her paws in her water dish and splash it all over the floor. If I am in a hurry I slip in it and almost fall. Have tried placing a cookie sheet under it but that doesn't help much and I have to keep cleaning the rust off it. Does anyone else have this problem?

My german shepherd does'nt play in his water but he laps it up really fast6 and it splashes all over and if that's not bad enough he walks away from the bowl with water dribbling from his mouth as he goes thru the house. He's such a slob.
Try getting an elevated feeder.I got ours from Jeffer's Pet.The large one is only $16.00 plus shipping. They won't tip and the bowls are too high for them to get their paws in.

Yes...its called owning a retriever. They LOVE water. Try getting her a small kiddie pool and keep it full of water....she will spend a lot of time in there, you will see and then not play in her water dish so much. I have 3 black labs, and1 yellow and two of my black labs are water addicts..... I can't have an above ground pool because my male (140 lbs) will bend the sides so the water falls all over him....the two of them have now discovered our jacuzzi and swim in it daily...BUT the water bowl is no longer getting spilled and played in. So...bottom line..give her a small pool to play in so she gets her water play fill somewhere besides her water dish.

My dog does that too. she even knocks over the water bowl and starts pushing it around. She usually wants attention or shes upset bout somethin. get a new waterdish that is taller so your dog cant put her paws in it. (get one that is sturdy enough to stay up so she cant push it over again). GL!
