Has this dog been through an emotional state? has there been any changes in the family such as a new member, moving, a death? one small change in a dogs environment can effect thier emotional feelings. how long have you had your dog? Did you get your dog from another family or a breeder? if so you may want to investigate how that dog was treated prior to becomming your pet. Your dog may not bark during the day because she is focused on what is going on arount him at that time. for example, hey lets play with the ball, or momy feed me, or i have to go potty. things distract her from thinking alot. but during the night/or when she is asleep, anything emotional or anything that has struck a threat to her will began to go through her subcontios mind. And that is where you get the barking from. something that she dose not like, or that has threatend her, or (even exited her in a good way, that can be the case to, but usually not since you said she only barks when asleep). Some good advise to help her with this, if the bark sounds agressive, take your hand and (not hard just enough to get her attintion) pop the bottom of her mouth upward with the palm of your and and say "no bark". if it continues just inforce the tone of your voice. if it is not agressive, wake her up and pet her and say "hush" in a soft but firm voice. that will let her know she isnt supposed to bark, but she is ok from danger. All mammals dream. With dogs, they go through sleep cycles just like humans. When humans dream their eyes dart back and forth under the eyelids, and sometimes they talk or vocalize in their sleep and move their arms and legs. Dogs and cats have the same dream cycles and many of the same activities can be oberved in them!

Maybe she is braver in her dreamworld. My dogs dreams of things that make her happy, wags her tail, and she has made movement that makes you think that she is chasing something. The one that makes me laugh is when she jumps like something startled her or maybe she is falling. And sometimes she will bark like something is getting or or she is getting it.
