Why is it that when the dog starts behaving badly everyone wants to blame the breed. There is no bad dog!!! Dogs are not to blame. The owner has to know how to raise a dog. I don't mean just feeding, bathing, and walking them. I mean teaching them that the owner is the alpha and dog is follower of the alpha. I feel e1 should have to take classes to learn how to care for animals before they are aloud to have one. Maybe if this would happen there would be less cruelty to animals.
We teach our dogs to be exactly the way they are. We laugh at how cute they are when they show a little teeth and growl when they are not even big enough to hurt anything, yet want to get rid of them the minute they tear things up or bite someone b/cause they have been aloud to keep this behavior.

She is very smart otherwise, but I just can't get the meaning of "potty outside" thru her ornery little head!!! She goes in & out of the doggy door all by herself but pee's and poop's inside. She knows better because she tucks her head and heads for the doggy door when we find evidence or catch her in the act. I can't afford to replace my carpet! Is there some really good product that will help. A tried and proven spray or something. I love her to death but I'm beginning to regret that I ever got her. My husband and I have really spent a lot of time taking her outside faithfully, praising her for going outside and teaching her about the doggy door, but she when shes alone she still does it inside. Like I said she is very ornery....I named her "IDGIE" from that character in the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. She is a lot like her, very defiant & hard headed. She bites hard when she is playing, we spat her & tell her no, but she forgets I guess. Please, I need some expert advise.

I have an eight-year old Black Lab. He is a great dog, gets lots of exercise, and is with me 90% of the time. His elbows (upper leg joint) have no hair on them. He seldom licks or scratches them. Why is there no hair on his elbows? Thanks for you answer.

My puppy growls at me and has his back hair raise before he eats his dinner. His back legs shake and he snarls and his hair rises. This doen't happen when my husband feeds him. We have always lightly pet our puppy and say "good boy" when he eats to make sure this would never happen. Now it does.. What is the reason behind this only happening to me and how do I get it to stop?

My dog bit the neighbor girl. He had the potentiol to do so, he has tried to attack 2 other ppl but didn't actually bite them. He goes crazy when someone new enters our yard. We keep him in the kennel or on a 40 ft. tie out in the back yard but it has been too hot out back for him so we tied a 20 footer to the garage with the door open where he can pee and then go to the shade out side the door, the girls ran through the garage, and one stopped to pet him and he basically jumped up on her scratched her tummy and bit her hand! I am horrified and now i will probably need to put him down. This bothers me, but otherwise i will have to post a sign, kennel him and muzel him if out walking. Not sure what to do, he's not 2 until Sep. and a 95 pound black lab. He is great with our family but hates new ppl, so can't give him away as he'd bite them, humane won't take him, any imput?

it said that when dogs lick each other/ppl, it's a gesture from their days as a puppy, a 'feed me' reflex. does this mean that when they lick us, they're not showing affection? if not, how do they show it?
