She is very smart otherwise, but I just can't get the meaning of "potty outside" thru her ornery little head!!! She goes in & out of the doggy door all by herself but pee's and poop's inside. She knows better because she tucks her head and heads for the doggy door when we find evidence or catch her in the act. I can't afford to replace my carpet! Is there some really good product that will help. A tried and proven spray or something. I love her to death but I'm beginning to regret that I ever got her. My husband and I have really spent a lot of time taking her outside faithfully, praising her for going outside and teaching her about the doggy door, but she when shes alone she still does it inside. Like I said she is very ornery....I named her "IDGIE" from that character in the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. She is a lot like her, very defiant & hard headed. She bites hard when she is playing, we spat her & tell her no, but she forgets I guess. Please, I need some expert advise.

joejoe, Truthfully I'd kill you before I killed my dog peckerhead!
Everybody else, thanks for the input, I appreciate it.
The outside idea sounds good but those types of dogs (short nose) can't take heat they will die, they have to be kept inside. I've been doing the praise, reward & scold thing. It just is going to slow. I just think my floors will be ruined by the time she gets it. Need something to deter her from that area! Anybody know of the best product for that?

Hey, doggie doors can be confusing. Especially to babies just getting the hang of potty training. LOL!
Keep her on a leash tied to you all the time for awhile. When you see her go indoors, yell "no" and take her out. Praise her as if she went outside even if nothing else comes out. Then go back in the house. No playing, she has to learn the difference between play time and potty time.
Take her out about every hour or so, and after naps and eating. Also when you have come home from work, or anytime she has had to "hold it". Stay out with her and repeat "go potty" until she does and praise her. Take her into the house. Again no playing.
She will eventually go on command so you won't have to guess on if she has gone or not.
Keep in mind that she can't "hold it" more than an hour or two. She is still a baby with a baby's control. Give her about 6 months before you insist she "hold it" for long periods of time. If you have to leave her longer than that consider crate training. There are many books on the subject and too much to type here.
Nature's Miracle works wonders on stains. (no pun intended)
She doesn't understand about the biting yet. Be consistent, she'll get it.
Cut her a little slack. She will go from baby ignorance to teenage terror in no time. You are looking at trouble for the better part of a year, maybe a year and a half. Puppy raising is a lot of work, but so worth it, don't you think?

My mother is the former president of the BTCA's Portland chapter so I grew up in a kennel surrounded by Boston Terriers. They're cute, but oh so frustrating.
House training is mostly a matter of repetition, reward, and punishment. For the longest time you'll need to personally take Idgie outside. Try to do it at the same times everyday to get her into a habit. Dogs are just as aware of time as we are and will get used to voiding their waste at the same times every day.
When she begins going outside on her own reward her for it immediately with a treat (we used tiny bits of liver or bacon). When she goes potty in the house punish her immediately. Put her face right down next to her mess and scold her with a loud voice and a little swat to the nose. It won't mean anything to her if she can't reconcile the punishment or reward with the behavior, so be sure to issue both immediately after said behavior.
That's all there is to it. It's going to take a lot of time and patience, but it will be worth it in the end. Boston's are great dogs!

You have to think like a dog. Dogs don't come wired with an outside poo radar. They have these blue papers called wee-wee pads. Go buy some. Dogs are attracted to a scent on the pads, much like the scent that her poo leaves behind. Leave one of the papers behind in the house, in a safe place..linoleum, tile. The puppy will, most-likely, potty on the paper. Take the messy paper outside, along with the puppy and designate an area on the lawn where you want her to do her business. Show her this spot and leave the pad on the lawn for a few days. She will recognize her own scent and relate it to this spot. Each time she goes outside or you bring her outside, immediately take her to this spot. It is best to be around her so you can catch her if she tries to poo in the house. If she starts, give her an abrupt, NO, and immediately bring her outside to the designated spot and praise her. Doing this will make her realize that it is good to go outside and poo in this spot and bad to do it inside. Try not to get all wiggy on the poor puppy when she has an accident in front of you in the house. It will just confuse and scare her. Stay calm, use the abrupt no, and run her outside and praise. If she has more accidents inside make sure you are using a good pet stain detergent. If the puppy smells the odor, they tend to want to do it in the same place again. Good luck.

the place did you get her? doggies shouldn't in simple terms soil the place they sleep, it appears like she would have come from a domestic dog mill. Regardless, a domestic dog that youthful can not carry it- she desires to be taken out each hour with the aid of the day and a minimum of two times for the period of the night. this is between the various motives so you might never take a domestic dog faraway from its mom so youthful. How dare you knowingly take her early, no longer take her exterior sufficient and then threaten to do away along with her? To be easy it feels like the domestic dog could be extra effective off in case you chanced on her a sparkling homestead, you're patently no longer keen to look after her good so possibly it may be perfect in case you rehomed her and not get yet another dogs- you're no longer a dogs guy or woman.

I'm no expert, but I'd say you should force her to stay outside in the morning until she's done her business.
