My 11 month old dachshund has what looks like his skin on the little pad above his dueclaw (i call it his elbow LOL) is scraped or a layer of skin is peeled off. maybe he scraped it on something but he has a spot where it is red. what can i do? does he need to go to a vet? he keeps licking it, should i not let him do that?

its not a deep cut or anything like that, just looks like a layer or two of skin came off making it red

Licking is good put tripple antibiotic cream on it and watch it for a few days, if it looks better great, other wise take him to the vet please, and do not wait to long.

It should be fine. When he licks it, he is just trying to clean it. Try to keep him from doing it constantly. If it dosne't heal up in a week or so, I would take him to the vet. If it looks really deep, he might need stitches.

licking is a dog's way of making it feel better. Try to keep him from licking so much. put a little bandage around it if it looks too bad then he needs to go to the vet. kisses to the poor doxie for his owie

Yes take him to a Vet right away because if he keeps licking it, it will definitely get infected. Better to stop it before that happens.

Take him to the vet. Let him lick it. Dogs mouths are cleaner than humans, even though they lick their butts.

He's trying to clean it. Clean it for him using a wet cloth or something and try letting it heal tonight. If you don't see improvements within a week or so take him to the vet.

you should probably try to keep him from licking at it too much. if it doesn't get better, you may have to take him to a vet so that the vet can put bandages on it to keep him from worrying at it all the time.

hope he feels better!

As usual, I like to say TAR Shampoo. Works with all skin problems.
