I think some dogs get it that their person likes it so they do it to make them happy. That is definite affection.

I think the 'feed me' reflex is a submissive sign, as a puppy would lick his mother, giving her the power to feed it or not. In the same way, if a dog licks you, it is submitting to you, so, it is a form of affection in a way, showing non agression.

yup its true. baby wolves lick their parents faces to get to them to regurgitate food for the pupies. Don't worry dogs show affection in all sorts of little ways. Waiting for us at the door when we come home, nudging us to play ball or to be petted, simply enjoying a good pat on the head! The licking too can be deemed affection because they are then showing they think you'll provide a necesseity such as food to them. When dogs treat us as superirior members of their pack, that can be seen as affection.

That is a way of showing affection/submission and also we do taste good and salty, they're all right answers. every dog is different, some love to lick, others never lick, some like to cuddle, others don't like to, you have to read your dog to know how it's showing affection to you. all dogs do that differently

You know just because they did a study on something it does not mean they know everything. Even though they think they do. I think dogs lick you because they love you. I have had several dogs and they would jump on my lap and try to lick me. They did not want to be fed or anything else. The people who do those studies sometimes miss the big picture. when aveage people like us really see it.

It is also submission to the pack leader. A dominant dog will not lick your face in the same way.

not at all.... if that were true then my grandmothers dog would like die because of starving. sometimes it can mean that. but if you really want to know when a dog licks you make it stop then see what it does.. if it goes byt its bowl then give it some food or water but if it just goes and lies down.. welcome it back caus ethat means that they are showing you affection..
thats all science crap.

It depends on the licks.
When he licks me on face and body, its for salt. Before we sleeps, the gentle eyes and gentle licks on the face, that s to say, thanks for another good day.

That's correct.
Also,"don't hurt me,I'm submitting!"
Do NOT attribute HUMAN emotions to DOGS! They ARE dogs,NOT humans! INCAPABLE of such.
Got it?
