Just wondering how many people out there own a Hovawart? My beautiful girl is just over two years old now. I live in Ontario, Canada and NO ONE has any idea what they are. They think she is a mix and don't believe me when I tell them she is a pure breed. Does anyone else have this problem? She has black and tan colouring (although only on her legs, none on her face. I'm fairly sure she doesn't meet the breed showing standard) so that may have something to do with people assuming she's a mix.

we've been feeding the same 2 stray cats for about 3 months now. one's male and the other is female. the male is very friendly and will let you pet him, but sometimes he can also be very shy and timid. the female is extremely shy and will not let you get anywhere close to her. we need to get both of them spayed and nuetered so we have a "have a heart" trap, and i feel so terrible, the female (we call her mama cat because when we first saw her, she was with a baby kitten.. so cute!!) will be scared out of her mind. when we finally bring her back from the hospital we have to keep her in a cage for 3 days. after we let her out, do you think she'll ever come back for food again? we're doing the same thing with the male cat (we call him George) i hope he will forgive us too. what do you think?

There is a really annoying cat who keeps forcing through our magnetic cat flap (which should only open for our cat with a magnetic collar) He is attacking our cat in the night and scaring our young child.
We have tried to scare him away, but he is not intimidated by us.
What should we do?

He is obscessed with water dripping in the sink and wants to drink from the sink many times during the day. He seems healthy, not overweight and is active. Or could this just be a healthy playful fascination for him? Thanks in advance

Being a complete novice, I want set up my first tank but know very little. Ideally I'd like a cold water tank, but one of the most important aspects of the tank is that it looks good. I've got a hexagonal 26 litre tank with filter and light, but want to know which fish are best suited to this environment and look the business. Preferably no more than £15 each and easy to get hold of.

Tommorow it will be1 yr since my dog passed away. He had genetic lung cancer. I miss him so much each day, and since we spread his ashes over a beautiful pond -I visit him quite often & see him everyday before I go to my nearby college. I sometimes write letters for him and drop them into the water, bring his favorite treats & toys, things like that. =) it helps me heal and lets him know that he's not forgotten.

Anyone have any ideas they would like to share- on something special I can do for him tommorow? It's going to be a rough day for me. We appreciate it =)

I recently found 2 kittens that were either abandoned by the mother, or the owners. I tried everything to get them back to their mom, put up flyers but no one called, so I took care of them and now they are approx. 6-8 weeks old. I tried giving them to a shelter, and pet shops and even the humane society, but it seems like they would be best off if I could keep them. Problem is, I am a single mom with a new (3 month old) baby, and I will not have the kittens around unless I can get them declawed. The problem is, I have heard a lot of people say NEVER to do that. I know nothing about declawing, so I was wondering if anyone has had their cat declawed, what everyone thinks of this, and what it would cost. Any help would be great.

We have a Staffie. When he goes for his evening walk, he starts chomping and slurping and smacking his lips. He's even starting to froth a bit at the mouth when he does this. I've noticed him doing it when he's licked the grass, but my boyfriend says he does it even when he hasn't tasted anything.

What is it? Is it a symptom of something? Or is he just SO excited to be on a walk?

Hi I just started volunteering at a local vet office and noticed there are a lot of prescription foods by Hills (like I/D and C/D) and was wondering what they are all for? I could ask the people I work with, but I would like to do a little research on the side and impress them! Thanks!

The SPCA said he was a daschund and jack russell, but i think he is too tall. I was thinking more along the lines of a daschund/treeing walker coonhound.

The original buyer of the dog gave him to us but never gave the papers to us. We're no longer in contact with the person who gave us the dog and the breeder won't give the papers to anyone but the original buyer. How can we get them? He has a chip registered to us and is licensed... we just want to get his papers!

My neighbors have two chihuahuas and they crap in my yard always. I just finished picking up 20 of their smelly craps. I'm tired of it and the smell is horrible. What can I do? Talking to the neighbors is not goint to work. My mom has, several times, tried to give them a hint about the problem by scooping up the poop and puting it on their yard, but it only worked for a while.

Hey, people are saying tha pit bulls are illegal, obviously they live in one of the few areas where criminals have latched onto this breed for their illegal activities. Anyone out there understand that banning pit bulls only keep the dogs in the hands of criminals, who do not care about laws? In Denver, they are seizing dogs from responsible owners, dogs who have never shown any aggression at all, while the criminals keep on fighting them and training them to attack humans! The ASPCA and literally every dog educated person opposes this! Do you really think that the sort of person who uses dogs as weapons cares about the law or would license their dogs? DUH! Pit bulls in the hands of good owners are wonderful pets, I have worked with them for years and never had a problem, other than rehabilitating dogs that were abused! It is the people who make vicious dogs, not the color of the dog, the shape, or any other thing. It would stop a lot more dog attacks to ban criminals from owning dogs!

My cockatiel flew away at the end of September. Someone claimed he found him, about 10 miles away, and sent me a picture. They look mostly like my pictures, except for the mood of the bird and the lighting conditions. I'd like some feedback from you, so please take the time to compare it the pictures. This is what the person who found it said; "he has slight yellow under the gray and under the white on the wing trim and that’s very uncommon, he has a pied or lutino gene mutation from generations ago and you can see it was bred out of him with grays so its so unlikely that another bird would have that characteristic to show up in the same places." The links are below.

Anyone not agree with putting a dog in a cage for hours on end? This is a sort of newer thing, and I think it sucks. Yes, a dog can learn to adapt (they are stoic, after all) and they'll sleep, whatever, but does anyone agree with me that this is no kind of life for an animal whose instinct is to roam up to 12 hours a day, covering miles of territory? When did it change from dogs having doggie doors and the run of the house to people caring more about inanimate objects and keeping dogs confined in a space no bigger than their body? Oh, and I've seen a lot of questions about keeping dogs outdoors, so I want to state a fact: 90% of dog attacks were due to dogs who spend their life alone and chained in a yard, and then they get loose and are basically wild and mentally disturbed. Dogs are social, they belong with a pack!
