Weekly bathing helps a lot & our ferret learned to enjoy baths. There are special ferret shampoos & deordorizing sprays, but we usually went with either a kitten of baby shampoo.
Litterbox training is *very* helpful to keep both odor & mess under control. Our girl was quite a challenge to toilet train, it took several weeks of patience & persistence, but once she had the idea she was as meticulous as a cat. The funny thing is, she would even lie to us by *pretending* to use the box so she'd get a treat ;-)
We gave our ferret premium ferret food but if that's not available where you live, get the highest-quality kitten food that you can find. They can drink from a rodent-type water bottle (ferrets are *not* rodents, btw), or you can give them a bowl if you don't mind the mess-- they enjoy playing in it.
Ferrets do need lots of excercise outside their cage. They can get along with other animals, depending on everyone's personality. Ours loved to play Tag with one of our cats-- they'd chase each other back & forth across the room until 1 of them got tired. We had to watch out with another cat tho--she regarded the ferret as a potential meal.
Ferrets are awesome pets but they do require time & commitment.

ferrets smell a little with out their stink gland. I reduced the smell of my ferret by bathing it in baby shampoo (with aloe sometimes)(vet said you can bath them every two weeks for mine). Very easy to take care of you can train them to use a litter box and just clean it every day. Theres not alot of expeneses but (shampoo, and toys are optional) ferret food (mine eat cat food) but you can buy ferret food there food is cheep. I payed $150 for mine but they are alot cheaper know like a 100 dollars. Make shure when you buy it that it has a black or green dot in its ear. This means there full stock marshall ferret. They are the best breed. You have to clip their tonails every month too.

remove the scent glands if not removed yet.ferrets are fearless, watch them around other animals.do not leave ferret alone with small rodents such as mice, hamsters, rabbits.ferrets were orginally hunters.they are usually $150. you can get a spray at pet stores which will reduce smell and hair balls. give them a bath only once a week.bathing them to often will dry out there skin.good luck

Even de-scented ferrets have that musky smell, always. You can bathe them regularly but they are, by nature, smelly animals. I've seen them as cheap as $100.00 at pet shops, care involves annual vet visits and some states require ferrets to be rabies vaccinated annually. A large multi-floor cage would be adequate but they require more contact and stimulation than a chinchilla.
