I want one and I'm torn between a puppy or an older one that needs rescue. What are the pitfalls besides big poops?

We have 3 Danes and they are great. We are planning our first litter this winter.Rescue dogs should always come first if you are wanting a pet. Yes, they have big poop! But, they also have big hearts. Danes Do NOT need alot of exercise. A short walk is enough, they are pretty laid back.
My mother-in-laws Dane lived to be 16.

Hip problems and short lifespans.

Everything for them costs more, food, heartworm meds, flea drops, xrays are larger and more expensive because of film size, takes more medications etc. Great dogs but heartbreaking when they pass so young.

Big poops, high food costs, short life span. They're really nice dogs, though...

Seems like as soon as you get really attached to one they will get an intestinal torsion and die.
