I'm sorry for your loss. I don't think we ever get over the loss of a loved one, be it a human or a pet, but we just learn to live with the loss and appreciate all we had with them.
I won't tell you to get another pet. I truly believe the universe will bring you and your next pet together when the time is right. Perhaps what would help you is to turn your focus outward and volunteer somewhere like a pet rescue. Or, if that's too difficult right now, a soup kitchen or a retirement home. To focus on others that need help or comfort is the most healing thing of all. Wouldn't that be a wonderful way to honor Zack?
Take care.

I'm sorry you lost your dog. It must be really hard on you since it seems like you loved him so much. "Rejoyce in the life that was, morn it's passing, honor the memory and live...life is the greatest gift of the Winds, do not dare cast it away for no better reason than an exess of sorrow." I read this in Elizabeth Kerner's Redeeming the lost. It has so much real life validity. I would consider getting another animal, not as a replacement of Zack or even to make you forget Zack, but as a companion to help you move on from Zack. I know he wouldn't want you to be in this much pain. Maybe go out and search for that companion with Zack in mind; what sort of companion would he have wanted to have around with you?
Just a thought.

Hello:
I would say you should think about getting another dog. Do not get one though with the idea of replacing Zack as all dogs are different and have their own personalities, like you and I. I lost a beautiful female yorkie when she was four years old. I still miss her and I have a picture of her in my bedroom. I do have other yorkies as my wife and i show dogs and they are all different and have their own special qualities. Zack can never be replaced in your heart but a new puppy can help to heal the hurt thats in your heart.

I am so sorry for your loss and understand your grieving.
We lost our 13 yr. old Doberman, Escada, 6 weeks ago to cancer. She was a rescue dog from a breeder. She was also a show dog who had competed several times. She had the best temperament you could ever ask for.
We had her cremated and she will always have a special place in our home.
We will never forget or stop loving her.
We would never try to replace her or expect another dog to take her place. That just sets you up for more heartbreak.
But we do think the best way we can honor her life and all the love she gave to us is to adopt another rescue Doberman. It seems there are so many older ones that are just discarded. I really think she would want us to do this and give this dog as much love as we gave her. We know we would receive ten fold the love back.
Just keep in mind what a wonderful dog your baby was and that she would want you to share your love with another who is in need of love.
Just start looking, and you will be guided to the animal who needs you as much as you need her.
Good luck and never give up loving these beautiful creatures.

I suppose everyone has suggested a puppy-NOT to replace Zack, but to ease the hurt. People have a huge capacity for love and the pup can grow on what Zack started. The pup would sure appreciate it! God bless.

you sould just get another dog. not exaclty the same breed but maybe similar. it will help you think less about zack. the only thing you can say is that he is in a better place and he would want you to get another dog and be happy like when he was a puppy.
