Just wondering how many people out there own a Hovawart? My beautiful girl is just over two years old now. I live in Ontario, Canada and NO ONE has any idea what they are. They think she is a mix and don't believe me when I tell them she is a pure breed. Does anyone else have this problem? She has black and tan colouring (although only on her legs, none on her face. I'm fairly sure she doesn't meet the breed showing standard) so that may have something to do with people assuming she's a mix.

They really are beautiful dogs and it's a shame more people don't know about them. However, they've recently become a recognized breed by the Canadian Kennel Club. Hopefully they can gain some popularity WITHOUT being carelessly over-bred.

Not many people have heard of Hovawart's and if they see the golden colored ones they just assume they are golden retrievers. I don't have one but I think they are beautiful dogs!

I don't own a Hovawart, but I have heard of them.
I can understand why you have that problem. They are not that well known, and they resemble Golden Retriever mixes.

For those who don't know that a Hovawart is, here is a page on them with pictures.

A friend who lives in Germany has one. She's golden colored and is mistaken for a Golden Retriever. She's very intelligent and has won prizes in agility.
