I'm not sure how high your sides are, but I finally got a big rubbermaid tote and used it like a litter box. I would also recommend getting a mat designed to catch and hold on to litter stuck to cat's paws (you can get them at pet stores). Also try a litter bow that is encolsed and just has a door. Hope this helps!

I feel your pain. A covered box wasn't an option, at least that's what the cat told me (lol). I now have a box with a snap on lip that curves into the box a little bit . The lip creates a barrier that helps keep most of the litter in. I also put one of those pet mats by the box to trap the litter that comes off her feet, which is a surprising amount too.

I bought an inexpensive stick vacuum (rechargeable). The cat doesn't mind the sound of it and it makes picking up the debris she leaves much easier than sweeping.

I had this problem. And one of my cats won't go in a covered litter box, unfortunately, since that's an easy answer.

I did find one that had a higher lip that sloped inward so when she kicked it up, it flies back down. It's one of those that has the strainer in it.

If all else fails, switch to some of the wood shavings type litter. It's lighter weight, smells good and sooooo much easier to sweep up.

I put the litter box in a larger, cardboard box. Litter still gets kicked out of the litter box, but the outer box catches it nicely.

get a covered litter box. it's the only way. Cats kick the litter out when they try to cover up the mess.
