He is obscessed with water dripping in the sink and wants to drink from the sink many times during the day. He seems healthy, not overweight and is active. Or could this just be a healthy playful fascination for him? Thanks in advance

he most certainly should not have diabetes if he stays active sleeps enough and is not overweight i think your good.. sometimes when cats do this it means they are keeping themselves occupied so they don't get bored

Sounds like a normal cat to me. :)

BUT you shouldn't have to wonder about that kind of thing. Vets do annual physical exams on pets same as your doctor does for you, and those exams include bloodwork. Any disease that's left untreated because you don't know about it is a death sentence, potentially with some suffering first.

I know that it costs a lot of money but that's part of owning a pet. I pay a monthly Banfield Wellness Plan fee of $70 and get an extremely thorough amount of vetting done twice a year on both of my dogs FREE OF FURTHER CHARGE. It's a lot better deal than my own healthcare!

Your cat probably isn't diabetic just because he has a fascination with water. If you're truly concerned, you can always have the vet check him for signs.

One of our cats jumps into the tub to get water every time she hears it run. I don't think you have a problem.

BUT if you question it, contact your doctor for an appointment. Diabetes in cats is very tragic but can be controlled with meds.

I would keep an eye on him. Cats with CRF (Chronic Renal Failure otherwise known as kidney failure) often exhibit the same interest in water. When was the last time your cat had his annual checkup and/or a blood test?

Take him to the vet for a full check up. It may be nothing at all, but if it is diabetes or kidney trouble, you want to get on top of the problem QUICKLY.
