My husband and I both work full time but we want a small dog. Any suggestions. Right now it's just the two of us but we plan on starting a family in a year or so. We need a baby friendly dog. Something small like a poodle (he hates poodles but something that size). Anyone know much about shih-tzus? Any suggestions on a good, small, family dog?

My b/fs kitten is acting strange. She is leaking vaginal fluids, pulling herself around on the ground with her front paws, she isnt as active as normal and when she's laying down her tail" lays over to the side"

Okay they will be male and female.. and have seperate tanks.. I think I will breed.. I have researched it enought to know what to do.. now I only need experience.. I have a breedig place.. (atisons suggested any large container so a large bucket (10-15 gallons i think) would be okay i think?) But I need homemade foods I can feed the fry.. So far boiled egg yolks.. powdered flakes.. infusoria.. and when old enough broken up blood worms.. anything else beside microworms.. I personally dont think I will be able to buy or culture anything besides infusoria.

My pH is about 7.8. I heard they need slightly acidic water. Can they adapt to more alkaline water? Or should I try mucking with the pH level?

He was neutered yesterday. I have him wearing a cone...the vet didnt say it was necessary but did say if he continually tried to lick the wound to use one. Of course, he does...so Ive got him in a cone. Just wondering how long it took your dogs neutering wound to heal. thanks!

My betta has what I believe is fin rot. I have been thinking that maybe he needs to be put out of his misery but a previous question here about how to humanely kill a fish got me really thinking about it.

My fish has been treated, and I went thru this once b4 with another betta who went 3 wks like this, pulled out of it for a month but not very well, only to go back into being sick again & died.

My current betta is listless, right now is attempting to float almost upside down, but has been this way for days.

I'm really torn between giving him a chance & putting him out of his misery. What would you do? (and please NO sick jokes)

I read about a similar situation several years ago and I've always wondered about this. I'm wondering if you good breeders would consider this or think that this breeder did the right thing.

So, a guy called up a responsible breeder and wanted to use her dog at stud. She explained to him that his dog wasn't breeding quality. She spent a long time with him, was patient with him and did the whole education thing. In the end, he still hadn't been dissuaded from breeding his dog.

After a bit more discussion, the breeder decided to let this guy use her stud. She reasoned that this guy was going to breed anyway. There was no stopping him. He could either breed to a healthy, well-built, proven dog or he could breed to the first intact dog of his breed he could find. If he's going to produce a litter of puppies, the pups might as well have healthy genes on one side.

What do you think? Would you ever agree to this? There is no risk of brucellosis (either AI or ***** is tested).

My Angel fish has been attacked and 1/2 eaten my baby crawfish. He is missing his tail and 1/3 of his body is cut up. He will not live like this and I'm sure he is in pain. What's the quickest way for him to die? I read about clove oil and vodka, but it is 9:45 at night and no stores will be open where I can purchase clove oil. I need to do this immediately.

And yes, I know the crawfish needs his own tank now.

My little bichon tore his ACL on the right leg a few months ago. They replaced the ligament, and it tore again so he had another surgery. He has been three legged for about three months and he just tore his other one today. Has anyone had any experience with both legs being injured. How do I care for him? Is this common?
Any advice is appreciated.

which should i get? i've done research over a span of a few months on rats. i've always been interested in rats and now that my family has stopped moving, i thought it would be the perfect time for me to get them as pets. when i went to ask people in my area that know about rodents, they suggested degus as a possible choice of pets. they explained to me that: rats will stink without a cage cleaning at least once a week (which i knew already) and that degus tend to live longer- around 8-10 years. degus are only sold in pairs because they are very social, which would cost $50 dollars without a cage and necessities. after all initial costs, i would be spending around $135. rats are a bit cheaper, and though i know that they are at risk of health issues (tumors), they have always been a #1 choice because of their loving, gentle personalities. my issue with money is that i have enough to spend over a period of time (on food, etc), but not all at once (as with degus). please help me choose!

Everyone is talking about a shortage of hay this winter which doesn't worry me because the farms here in Lexington, KY will just ship it in from Canada but it will drive the price up. I've just bought a ton for my own horse (not work) and paid $5.25 per bale. Wondered what the situation was elsewhere, how much you are paying and what state?
Thanks

I run into people walking their dogs who dont want my dogs to go near them like theyve got a plague. Then when mine get near theirs they sometimes react negatively. Do these people actually never let their dogs relate to other dogs? How sick is that? I sometoimes tell these people they need to socialize their dog and they give me somne snide remark. Why are some owners so cruel and ignorant?

He used to be a beautiful shade of blinding bright green and now he has a brown tint. Is he going to shed his skin soon or does his diet make him a different color? Also sometimes when I pick him up he goes into the snake equivalent of an alligator death roll and freaks me out! I mean he's all over the place. Is there a better time to handle him to get him tame? Like after a meal, at night, first thing in the morning??
