I am not really asking if they can get it, but can they get it on them and when they rub against their owners can it spread to their owners to cause a n itchy rash?

I thought they could but I wasn't sure, because I haven't heard of a dog having poison ivy. But we have this one spot in our backyard where the are spots full of the ivy and my two smaller dogs like to go back there latley because they seem to have found a smell they like back there and a couple days ago i noticed rashes on my legs and all of my dogs (3) usually like to rub against my legs and be petted and rubbed, so i thought that could have been it. I will do what you guys syggested tomorrow and give all 3 or at least the 2 who go back there all the time a nice thorough bath (with gloves on) and get them cleaned up.

Yes, it is possible. Poison Ivy has an irritating oil. The dog can brush against it, and then rub against you... and it will be as if you had rubbed against the Poison Ivy.
BTW, you can also rub your clothes against poison ivy, then when you take them off, you can get the oil on your hands, and spread it to other parts of your skin...
For most people, poison ivy is a type of allergic reaction. Someone who has touched poison ivy and not washed might spread it to other people. However, someone who has blisters and has washed, cannot usually spread the oil to other people... and can't "infect" them.

Yes, it can happen just as you described, especially if the person is overly sensitive to poison ivy. My husband is more sensitive than most people and when our dogs get behind the scrubs and get the oil of the poison ivy on their fur and then rub against him, he gets the rash. We have to be very careful because of his sensitivity to it. He usually winds up having to see his doctor.

Sure. What happens is that the poison ivy oil gets on the dog's coat and if it rubs on skin the oil gets on skin and you can break out with poison ivy. You can even get poison ivy from clothes that have been touched by poison ivy.

Yes the worst case of poison Oak I ever had was from me petting my dogs. They were in a field and got the oil from the plant on their coats and I just petted them and then touched my face and neck. I was so bad I had to go to the doctors. The dogs were fine!

Oh yes indeedy. They can get the oils on their fur and rub it off on you. And then you will be trying to figure out where it came from.

Yes, they can. My dogs have given me poison oak (I live on the west coast - poison oak here, we don't have poison ivy) - same irritant though and same problem.

Yes, they can pick up the oils with their coat and transfer it to your skin... without it bothering them in the least.

Yes, they absolutely can. The oils can be carried on their fur and transfer to you.
