My Angel fish has been attacked and 1/2 eaten my baby crawfish. He is missing his tail and 1/3 of his body is cut up. He will not live like this and I'm sure he is in pain. What's the quickest way for him to die? I read about clove oil and vodka, but it is 9:45 at night and no stores will be open where I can purchase clove oil. I need to do this immediately.

And yes, I know the crawfish needs his own tank now.

I juast wanted to say sorry about my typo. I'm trying to figure this out quick. My problem is that my crawfish has attacked my angelfish. My angelfish needs to be put out of his misery. The crawfish is healthy.

The only good answer to your question is from Magic Man. Use what he suggested or the only other way I know of is going to be hard to do with smaller fish but you can take a knife and cut the spine of the fish right behind the head. It is quick, with little to no pain.

You are right, clove oil is considered to be the best, but you can also freeze the fish in a plastic bag with no water. Without the water it will go into shock very quickly and die much faster than with water in the container.

All of the methods listed above involve a little pain...why not try and see if he makes it? I bred bettas once, and the male really hurt the female- her fins were torn and I thought she was going to die...I put her in a tank with a filter and bought medicine at the store...and she lived! Don't feel bad about the crawfish- it's a learning process.

Got any Alka-seltzer?
Put the fish into a small container, drop 2 tablets in and cover it with a paper towel.

It's painless and quick.

Or, if you have the guts, a sharp knife is even faster and more painless. Use a quick cut to remove the head.

I've had fish survive freezing. Then they're in agony over what is killing them AND the cold.
Flushing is awful. They slowly sufficate, or are burned to death in the chemicals.

All you have to do is fill a container with water, put the angelfish inside, and simply put the container in the freezer! This is the most humane way to kill a fish. That's what my hairdresser told me anyway. But I believe that, although I've never tried it, I bet you it would work in a pinch!

well if you have the clorine that you use to but in to clean the tank put the fish in a cup an poor a lot of that stuff. im so sorry you were forced to kill your pet that terrible. actually angel fish will survive the night in a container like for storing food in the fridge then in the morning buy another cage and after a a couple of week the angel fish should recover.

I've heard of putting some water in the freezer for a while until it's really cold, then dropping your fish in and he will die on contact. The shock of water changes will kill him. I don't know if it works or not, but it sounds right.

Add some very warm water to the tank -- once the water gets warm, the fish will first go to sleep and then you can add even hotter water and it will die. Believe it or not that's how I was told to cook lobster and that's why I thought of it -- I was always told to first put the lobster under some warm water so that it is relaxed and calm (asleep) -- then when you plunge it into the boiling water to cook it, it dies. A chef once told me that the lobster will taste better because he wasn't traumatized since he was gently put to sleep first! Okay -- it may be a myth about the lobster, but it makes sense to me. Sort of like anesthesia -- more gentle and kind -- makes the fish woozy and relaxed. I'm sorry about your angel fish!

Put the fish in a glass of tank water, and then set the glass in the freezer.30 Min later it will be deceased It may sound bad, but the fish just "go to sleep." It doesn't put them through any pain.
