It looks like an African Spurred Tortoise, Geochelone sulcata, that has not been kept very well (although it might also be one of the American tortoises- Gopher or Desert that has been miskept as well)

Sulcatas (as well as other 'grassland species' like the Desert, etc.) eat a grassland diet that is big on hay and forage (Timothy hay, yard plants, dandelion, a variety of flowers and other forbs) and includes some dark leafy greens like looseleaf lettuce and turnip greens. Some cut-up or shredded orange or yellow orange veggies are good as well. Cactus pads and fruits are often eaten.

They will eat a little fruit- mostly things like ground growing berries, but they cannot handle the sugars in most fruits well.

They are a big species that can cause problems for the average keeper, and you can learn more at http://www.sulcata-station.org or http://www.tortoise.org

First um its a desert tortoise and it eats fruits any type but usually the softer fruits are easier for it to eat. It eats anything from watermelons, apples, oranges, banana, ETC.
