I just got back from the vet and Lucy, my lovebird, was put on Baytril for strep. She's always kept away from the other birds that I train, but she is in the same room as my Goffins Cockatoo, Kai. I'm trying to remember if strep can be passed between birds easily or not. They never play together (they don't get along) but Kai does sometimes jump on and chew on Lucy's cage just because she knows it annoys me. I probably will just end up getting medication for Kai, too, but do you think it's necessary? I don't want to hurt Kai, but the vet bills for her will be another $130 (cost isn't a problem, but it's still a lot of money and I don't have a huge bank account)

My sisters birds were recently diagnosed with a possible respiratory infection. She took 1 to the vet as he was sitting at the bottom of the cage just not looking right. The vet checked him and noted the roof of his mouth was very red which most likely means a URI. He was also closing 1 eye on the side that seemed inflammed. The vet advised it would be a good idea to bring in the cagemate to this bird as this infection is contagious and she had exhibited similar signs(closing 1 eye) about a month ago. She now has brought in 2 more birds who also seem to have this infection. She has 12 birds in all. I suggested that she bring them all in for testing as to not keep this virus spreading around. My question is how did they get it?
She dosent take them anywhere and dosent attend any bird shows. The only thing I can think of is that she dosent spray them enough and maybe their sinus's got clogged? She would like to avoid this happening again.Anyone have any ideas; what worked for you ? Thanks

Can I use the daylight bulbs that most hardware store sell for my fish tank? I'm planning to buy those spiral compact fluorescent bulbs. Anybody had any experience with them? Will 3 15-watt CFL + one 15-watt fluorescent lamp (long ones) be enough for my planted 15 gallon tank?

I have answered to many questions in which people are hating the fact that horses are slaughtered. So, I have decided to ask this question, why doesn't anyone open there eyes to what they have done by passing the bill? There are now countless numbers of horses in overcrowded semi's going all the way to mexico. At least here in america we could regulate what is going on, but in mexico, we have no control of what they are doing to the horses. So I hope that everyone who has there nose stuck way up in the air will read this and maybe open there eyes! I'm tired of explaining that so many horses are crippled and sick and beyond help, and have no place to go. A few months ago, I had to go to the only open slaughter house in america, and I'm not saying it was pleasureable, but I saw a crippled mare there that had a foal that night! Who would breed the poor mare? Stupid people thats who! ( the foal went to a good home, or i would have taken it!) I wish people would open there eyes...

I have a large angle fish (3-3 1/2 in.) in a 10 gallon tank. I used to have 4 neons in the tank while setting it up, and my angle fish seems to like to eat them. I was wondering about some suggestions of other fish that I could add to this tank without my angle fish having a feast of live fish. Thank you in advance for your help.

With all that's going on with dogfighting right now I was wondering where the law draws the line. You can buy beta's from the fish store and when you put two of them in the same bowl they will fight to the death and this is legal. But if you fought a dog or a bird it's illegal. Where is the line if they have legs it's illegal?

First off, I live in Tunisia, so I don't have access to all the fancy bedding available for pets. I need something basic.

I have 2 guinea pigs. I bought a starter kit (cage, bedding, food) when I was in the US over the summer. I had to change their bedding because it was dirty and definitely time to be changed. I couldn't find the same type of bedding for them that came with their cage, so we are using hay. Only problem is that since I put they hay in with them, they smell! Is there anything else that I can use as bedding that will not smell? My husband said that if I can't find a solution for the smell he is going to get rid of them, and my son is absolutely heartbroken over the thought of losing them!

Does anyone know any information about possible reactions to an Oscar fish bite? My boyfriend was bit by our Oscar last night, it drew blood. This morning he woke up a little sick and overall just not feeling well. I am just wondering if there is a link between the bite, or if it is just a coincidence?

In the pet store, I noticed that some of the aquariums had tiny lilly pads floating on the top of the water, and each lilly pad had a tiny stem, that I suppose came from some underwater plant. What was it?

I was hoping to find an artificial plant that looked like that.

What is the latin word for the word
"Place"
and
"Race"

I'm trying to think of a Cross Country slogan using something similar to "Carpe Diem" only, day would be either race or place. Can someone help?? And please don't be rude and say a rude word in latin that I don't understand, please give me the real word. I'm only a kid, and this is just for a t-shirt slogan. Thanks a bunch! ^-^

Hi I'd really appreciate a qualified vets opinion on this. My cat has been developing small patches of fur loss within which are raised pink lumps which then bleed (and sometimes weep) then scab over. She had antibiotics a couple of weeks ago which seemed to clear it up but fresh patches still keep developing. My vet said it could be an allergy to Iams dry food but she's been off that for over 2 months now. She doesn't seem to scratch the areas or be particularly bothered by them and isn't behaving abnormally in any other way (she's not off her food or less active). What could this be, is it serious (my vet doesn't seem to think so) and can it be prevented/cured?
