With all that's going on with dogfighting right now I was wondering where the law draws the line. You can buy beta's from the fish store and when you put two of them in the same bowl they will fight to the death and this is legal. But if you fought a dog or a bird it's illegal. Where is the line if they have legs it's illegal?

When you entertain yourself by watching animals fight it is a mental illness. Psychologists say all murderers, serial killers, etc, abused animals. So you can see it is a bad sign and show mental problems.

As far as dogfighting:

Hey, how'd you like to be one of Vick's pit bulls that just arrived at his kennels, being kicked in ribs for not attacking a little dog (that has his mouth taped), used as training bait. Then when you finally get the idea that you will be beat to death if you don't chew the throat out of the little dog -you tear it up and eat it because that's all you get to eat. Then, what is your reward...Fight fierce teeth gouging pits again and again and even though your face is half chewed off you must win or die, cause if you lose and don't die you will have a slow "hanging" death - and the life will slowly go out of your eyes- while the audience is laughing at you. That's torture my friend. Anyone that makes an excuse for this is a sick, sadistic, and a cruel human that should be locked away before their violence tendencies kill a human!

I can't imagine many people who would bet money on a beta fish fight. Dog & cock fighting is illegal because it is very well known. If beta fish fighting (say that 3 times) becomes common, there may be law----doubtful it will become common.

Bettas are ok, the fish stop before they kill each other, unlike a lot of other animal fighting.

It may be against the betting laws, if you're going to have people bet on the outcome, but fish fighting is legal. So is cricket fighting (not sure which type of cricket is used, but I do know they 'tickle' them with long grass or straw to get them to attack each other.

I'm pretty sure no laws are in place regarding insect and fish in this regard.

I have owned betta's for over 20 yrs, and I think a person who willing fights them isn't any better then someone who cheers on dog or bird fights.

Any human being who gets entertainment from watching something else suffer for their amusement isn't much of a human being.

I think if a cop walked into your house and saw you had ponds and bowls of fighting bettas then you would be fined money, but obvioulsy if you fight pitts then you face jail time. I think any animal fighting is illegal, but they just don't take anything as seriously as they take dog fighting.
