Why does my cat pee in my shoes?
My female 10 year old indoor spayed cat has started peeing on my families shoes at the front door. Her litter box is clean.
Any ideas/suggestions on how to get her to stop?

Get her to the vet for a check up..she may be trying to tell you something..that she perhaps has a bladder or unirnary tract infection. Not uncommon for a cat her age.

Move the shoes. Are the shoes inside or outside? If the shoes were placed inside, put a kitty litter box there.

That may take care of it.

If she still pees on things, she might have a bladder infection and needs to see a vet.

One tried it on a pair of our shoes lately--the smelliest pair in the house. Nearest I can figure is that if they're in the room with the shoes, and the shoes smell as bad as the litter box, they probably figure that it's ok to pee/poop there too, since it smells so bad.

Stick the shoes into a box or onto a shoe tree, to get them off the floor.

Maybe your cat doesn't know where the litter box is and pees in your shoes!!!Or maybe the cat thinks that the shoe is the litter box!!!

Just spray some of those bottles that smell really good, or get cleaning gloves and wash it with water and soap, but only a little bit :) Hope the smell gets out soon.

your cat probably doesn't recognize the smell of you and your family's shoes, and she is being territorial or she has a urinating problem, in which case you should probably call your vet about it.
