With filtration it is best to do a 25-50% water change on a weekly basis. Contrary to other answers, the size of the tank does not make a difference. A 25-50% weekly water change as suggested is in my opinion the best amount for any tank no matter what size. The specific amount changed can be subject to the types of fish you keep and their sensitivty levels and is debatable as to what amount is best. I personaly lean towards 50% on all of my tanks, big and small, on a weekly basis with the result of very healthy fish.

No matter what size tank you have, you need to do a 25% water change monthly. With a 2.5 gallon tank, this is 1 gallon.

you should do a 20% water change every 2 weeks and filter change every 3 weeks. make sure you don't add regular tap water. that will kill fish. if you use tap water, you need to get some AquaSafe and add a few drops to the water BEFORE you add the water to the tank. depending on what type of fish you have, you may need to get a water heater or cooler. Smaller tanks are very difficult to maintain a constant balance of chemicals and temperaturs that are safe for your fish. Make sure all of your fish are compatable tank mates. (meaning you don't have aggressive fish mixed with community fish... the community fish will be killed) Make sure you know the requirements of each breed of fish and whether or not you are capable of providing for that fish's needs. if you have gravel, you should clean it every two weeks with a extra small gravel vacuum. having a live plant will help maintain the pH balance in the tank. you should get some test strips that have pads for at least 6 different chemicals in the water and test the water every day at first until all the chemicals in the water are where they should be, THEN add the fish. after that, you should test the water every few weeks or so... good luck and make sure you know what you're doing... fish can be very hard pets to take care of if you are a beginner! make sure you read up on everything and ask lots of questions if you're unsure! good luck!

Siphon off a quart or so of water from the bottom of the tank once a week to get rid of excess feces and food particles, which can poison your tank and/or promote algae growth.

you're suppose to do a 25% partial waterchange weekly with a gravel siphon
definately not a 100%, because you will kill all the good bacteria in there
WEEKLY, not biweekly or every i don't know how many weeks
I hope you have only a betta in there, because it's definately no home for a goldfish
Hope that helps
Good luck

In that small of a tank change all of the water once a week, or enough partials to equal all of the water in one week. 2.5 is a small home and you will have to do more maintenece on a small tank.

depends what you are keeping in the tank. if its a betta, i would do at least 2-4 times a month a 1/2 water change. if its goldfish i would do them more often. but dont change all the water. it actually stresses out the fish by taking away all the beneficial bacteria that breaks down their waste.

It depends what you have in it but one a week or every two weeks should do the trick. 25% each time is recommended.

I would say once a week or when it starts to get a little cloudy. But once a week is good for your fish.
