When I rescued (it) all his/her fins were gone. I think I see an ovipositor but I'm not sure. The betta is in a ten gallon tank and I am having trouble seeing under it. Is there another way to tell if it's male or female? Maybe a more trained eye can see something I don't. Here are pics of when I first got him all beat up and some just a minute ago. Maybe you'll be able to tell. He's kinda bright to be a female - but I really think I see an ovipositor - so am I just gonna have to wait till the fins grow out and see what happens? i've gotten flea bites before and it usually had a white halo around the bites and you could see a "bite mark", but lately i have been having bites that don't resemble this. does this mean some other bugs or biting or is it that i'm just immune to the flea bites and stopped having the white halo around the bites?

My tank appears to be getting dirty more often than I have time to clean it. I've had sucker fish in the past that do a good job in assisting me clean the tank but never with a betta fish. I know male bettas attack one another but I didn't know if he would harm the cleaner.

My roommate's boxer/pit mix attacked my 4 month old puppy yesterday. He's not physically hurt, as we got to them quickly, but he's been very quiet and seeking affection and reassurance ever since. I'm worried that this may affect his relationship with dogs in the future, I don't want him to become scared or aggressive toward dogs because of this. He's young, so I assume I can work with him to prevent this. Any ideas?

We're due to get a rescue cat on Saturday. He's 14 months old and appears very confident, affectionate and playful! The staff at the rescue centre assured us he is 'ok' around other animals, including dogs.

My parents have a 9 year old Springer Spaniel that comes round with them when they visit (which is regularly as they live very near!). We also occasionally look after their dog for them. As far as we know, he doesn't really bother with cats that much.

My questions is, how do we 'introduce' the cat to the dog? Any suggestions or tips? We love Henry (the spaniel!) to bits and don't want him to feel upset we have a new pet, but at the same time we want the cat to gain confidence in his own new home!

Help?!!!

I really like angler fishes. They're so evil. Anyway, I want to buy one and put in a fish tank in a room that is basically dark 24/7, with blacklights around. I'm sure you'd have to go through some crazy efforts to buy one and get everything you need, but I just might be willing to do it. So, has anyone ever heard of this being done or does anyone know how I could do it?

1. One paradise gourami, 4 corydoras, 4 platies
2. One dwarf gourami, 4 corydoras, 5 blac k skirt tetras
3. Five tiger barbs, 4 corydoras
4. One betta, 5 corydoras
5. Three platies, 3 corydoras, 3 tiger barbs

The tank is moderately planted with a piece of driftwood. It has great filteration.

Also if you think tiger barbs are compatable with pretty much no other fish I've seen aquariums with a small school of them and other fish in it...

The Rainbow was 12 years old and in good health. Once it got sick, we raised the temp in the tank and room. It spent more time in the water dish than usual and shed immediately. It had just eaten a medium-sized rat the week before, so it wasn't time to feed.

We kept the snakes separate, but a week later our baby ball python took ill and died in one day. Same symptoms, sat in it's water dish. It looked to me like it had a seizure, then passed out. Slack-jawed. Gradually came back around, but stayed relatively listless and unresponsive. Clear bile and bubbles from it's nose. Some poop and pee. It had a second wild seizure; open-mouthed biting the air and wild writhing and then went totally limp. It recovered for a while then died. We were on a camping trip in the boonies and couldn't find a vet.

We have one more small ball python and are afraid. Could it be a virus or bacteria? Someone mentioned wood chips. We use wood chips in our tanks as recommended by Petco to help them shed.

I'm sick of not being able to pet and hold my kitty. Everytime I go to pet her she bites me. She's just playing, I know, but it's 24/7. There's not a sinlge momment that I can just pet my cat. She's too hyper. I started to let her outside and she's seemed to calm down a bit. I finally got to pet her and hold her. Maybe she just needed a night out to get all the agression out on her own. But will getting her SPADED make her less playful? How do I make my cat calmer and more of a CUDDLER?

My freshwater tank has small white wiggly things in the water and on the glass. They are less than a cm long and about the width of a strand of hair. There are hundreds of them and I am not sure if they are parasites or something else? My fish seem to not be in any distress, but everytime I look in the tank there seems to be more of these things! I am worried that they will keep multiplying and soon my fish won't be able to breathe. Does anyone out there know what they are???

I have 2 small (1 inch) puffer fish figure eight and are one of the most adorable fishes I've ever had. Although I have at least a 60cm tropical tank with some other fish (not more than 3). I take absolute care of water, and tank as well as fishes doing my homework 100% in order to make the best of my fishes. My puffers feed on Live food only, diet includes fresh plants, beefheart, mussels and other live food. Since buying my lovely fish they're developed beautiful colouration, and looks lively, healthy and very alert. But one thing I have not seen in many books or online is there tummies or if they 'puff' up. Both there little bellies are puffed and look almost pregnant, surely however i cant have two females that are pregnant! I bought them from a respected garden centre and from a huge tank of many puffer figure eights. My fish get on well with all there inmates, I have been taking close look and no nips. Any ideas?Any ideas where I can also find more info on puffa please?

My male cat that I have had since he was 2 months old, has started peeing a pooping on the carpet. I have tried everything that I know to get him to stop...to no avail. I've tried shampooing the area with pet stain removers, white vinegar, industrial strength carpet shampoo. He still goes to the same spot. We even tried blocking off the area. He goes beside the block. *sigh* What next?? He is healthy. I tried changing litter and bought a new box as well.

I recently took in 2 orphaned kittens a week ago.I've been bottle-feeding both and they are doing great.I've noticed that their teeth are coming in,milk teeth I guess.I'm wondering at what age should I wean them off the bottle and onto milk in a saucer? 1)right now i have a ranchu/lionhead tank and a ryukin tank both 45 gals and now that im moving i dont think i might have space for two tanks is it even possible to combine theses two kinds of fish in a 90or 125 gal tank or am i going to have to use a divider if i want them in the same tank together and do they make dividers for 90 or 125 gal tanks?
