We just got a kitten 3 1/2 weeks old. I was told we can use a eyedropper or a spoon for it to lick off of. But what kind of milk should we use?

The best milk is KMR - Kitten Milk Replacer. It can be found at most large pet suppliers like Petsmart and Petco (US). They also have inexpensive pet bottles. You can also find these products on-line at Drs Foster and Smith http://www.drsfostersmith.com/, Petsmart, Petco, Valley Vet and Omaha Vaccine.

Walmart does carry another brand, but I've had poor results - most kittens didn't like it.

KMR and other milk replacers are usually available canned (liquid) and powdered. Most kittens prefer the canned.

In a pinch I have used goat's milk mixed with pureed chicken baby food.

And, if your kitten is underweight - do add a little chicken baby food to the formula.

Although the lactose free variety might be ok (?), you should never give cows milk to kittens, or puppies. It can cause severe diarrhea.

And remember, mom cats help their baby to eliminate (go to the bathroom) by licking them. If your kitten isn't going on her own, you'll need to wipe her with a moist warm cloth after feedings, until she goes. If she hasn't been eliminating, this can be very dangerous.

Best of luck to you with your kitty!

There is formula kitten milk at pet stores. It is unlikely that the kitten will lick from a spoon at this age. Get a feeding bottle.

Do not use regular cow's milk. Cats are lactose intolerant. At your grocery store or a pet store, there should be a product called cat milk. it comes in little cartons. Look for this - they love it. Make sure to keep it in the fridge once it's opened - it'll stink otherwise.

It is called KMR or kitten milk replacer, they have it here www.revivalanimal.com or at petsmart and petco, over there it will be more expensive, but at your kittys age, you can just give her some goat's milk and some moistened quality dry food, or some meat/lamb/chicken/beef, human baby food mixed with the goat's milk or plain. She is old enough to start eating, since she is without mom.

Whiskers kitten milk isnt supposed to be used on cats under 6 week, but i did it with the whole litter of my kittens at that age. But, it has to be the tiniest amount, and an eye dropper would be great for that! gud luck x
