I just got back from a 7 day vacation today, and the nitrite and nitrate levels are higher than they've ever been.

I put in a 14 day feeder when we left, then took it out when I got home. The water is very clear, but my three red glass barbs seemed to be staying at the top to get oxygen. My two tiger barbs just go about their business. They all seem to want to eat and play, but occasionally the three red barbs will go to the top.

I did about a 15% water change. Will this help? Is there anything else I can do?

She's almost 3 months old and she feels the need to suck on the couch, my tshirts and any blanket that happens to be in her path. She doesn't stop, no matter how many times I get her down off the couch she jumps back up and goes right back to the same spot...or to the same tshirt or blanket....it's getting really annoying because everything gets wet. I give her milk in the morning and at night, what's the problem?

I got a new cat today and he is 2 years old. And I have a 5 year old dog. The dog has been around cats a lot but we haven't had a cat in like 4 months but at first the dog chased the cat. But now the dog is trying to be friendly but the cat keeps growling and hissing at it when it gets close. Well the cat has never ever been around dogs so how can I make them be more friendly with out them killing each other?

There is a cat and her 6 kittens in my apartment complex. My roommates and I are happy to take responsibility for them and find them better homes, but we cannot catch the babies. (The mother is very trusting of us.) They are old enough to leave their mother, but have not done so yet. We want to take them in as a group.

If we call Animal Control for help, can we take responsibility, or do they have to take the animals to the pound? Also, is there a fee for it if we do take them in from Control?

okay, so i've had my newest rat for about 2 weeks and he is still a baby. i was told that they NEED another rat to live with, so i decided to get him a friend. i fell in love with a baby boy and let them meet at the store, they seemed to get along..when i brought them home i let them play in the tub...the older one (rocky)attacked the new baby at least 3 times.. i put them in the cage and he attacked him again. i now have them separated in their cage and i don't know what to do? i don't want to take the newest one back but i don't want to separate them forever..that would start my whole problem again :( please help me?
and also if you have any name suggestions? he's a boy..

I just brought my 5 month old male kitty home from being neutered, & he seems well & active, & was starving, which is good. But instead of being groggy like I expected, he's running around my place constantly meowing like he's confused (for i'm guessing obvious reasons). I thought this would quiet him down for a few days! Anyway, just wondering why he's acting like this? I have to keep him in another room for now to avoid the noise. Any comments (like personal experience) & suggestions are welcome!

My friend is planning on purchasing a snake, she is going for her number one repile liscence (we live in australia), the snakes allowed with that liscence are..
Black-headed Python
Green Tree Snake
Children’s Python
Water Python
Eastern Small-blotched Python
Olive Python
Pygmy Python
Large-blotched Python
Centralian Carpet Python
Carpet and Diamond Python complex
Jungle Carpet Python
South-western Carpet Python
Coastal Carpet Python
Carpet/Diamond Python (natural intergrade)
Carpet Python
Diamond Python
North-western Carpet Python
Slate-grey Snake

If anyone with any knowledge in snakes could reccomend a breed it would be very helpful, as this is going to be her first snake and although we have reasearched alot she still cannot make up her mind!

I have a 55 gallon glass pentagon tank that I just inherited from my uncle. I have no idea where to start as far as setting it up, design, and fish. This question is pretty much fish tanks for dummies. I want it to be freshwater and look like a river bottom...with large pebbles and a few larger rocks. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions/expertice/advise to offer about setting this up? I want to use artificial plants so I would like suggestions about that also. Fish ideas are also great! Thanks.
