I just brought my 5 month old male kitty home from being neutered, & he seems well & active, & was starving, which is good. But instead of being groggy like I expected, he's running around my place constantly meowing like he's confused (for i'm guessing obvious reasons). I thought this would quiet him down for a few days! Anyway, just wondering why he's acting like this? I have to keep him in another room for now to avoid the noise. Any comments (like personal experience) & suggestions are welcome!

Please don't accuse or criticize me for not getting it done sooner :-P He was found as a stray a couple months ago, & I thought you were supposed to wait til they were a few months older. I know now you can have it done earlier, but I haven't been able to get it done until now. Shouldn't someone be praising me that I had it done to begin with?! geez...

Yes he will be hungry, he wouldnt have had anything to eat 12 hours before the castration.
It is a very simple process and a short anesthetic, they are then given an injection to reverse the anesthetic. So they are not groggy afterwards. And vets will not send home groggy animals, as they can harm themselves.
As he is 5 months old, he would have reached sexual maturity and is just reacting to a final surge of hormones. He will calm down after a couple of days.

Don't worry about how your cat is acting, keep in mind that he just got back from surgery and that the effects of the anesthesia haven't quite worn off yet (that explains why he seems confused), and don't worry he will get better with time (not long, though), just thank God it's a male cat we're talking about, because getting a female cat spayed is a more complicated procedure.
I hope this answer helped, and good luck with your cat! : ) ✭gabydt8✭

The drugs they give can have different affects on different cats. I really would not worry. When I had my cat done, he wasn't groggy either but acted very strangely for 3-4 days and then was back to normal.

Neutering is a much simpler procedure than spaying. They're usually back to their energetic kitten selves within a few hours.
He's probably just excited to be home. I'm sure it was boring for him sitting in a cage at the vet's office for a day.

I wouldn't worry about it. Your cat is obviously recovering very well indeed, and much more quickly than is usual.
If he's indeed being too noisy while you're trying to rest, you may have to close him in a kitten-proofed room at night. You may want to give him extra attention, and the chances are very good that the vet gave you antibiotics to give him until the incision heals. Other than that, just keep him as comfortable as you can.

Each day gets alittle better. Usually takes 1 week, though. After 2 weeks, you'll see a really happy cat!! Its' hormones take that long to leave his system. I bought a climber and a tunnel which help for activity and distraction. You will notice he will start following you more. He is bonding with you, not nature anymore!!

Just treat him as usual, you dont really have to lock him up somewhere quiet,he'll probably get stressed out more... he will go to a quiet place if he wants to.. he's just confused cause he just woke up hurting probably.. when my cat got neutered I always watched him going potty and checked his butt and cleaned for him sometimes (with wet tissue) ... the vet removed the stitches 5 days later.. my cat got really lazy since then... eats a lot .. sleeps a lot... I call him a fat ***.. I wasnt aware of the importance of diet? now im trying to get him a little skinnier but it's hard..
What are you guys talking about? Cats need to be grown up before getting neutered, it's best to get it done around 5~7 months ! As long as they dont spray it's not too late ! Also, dont try to feed him he'll probably throw up.. my cat did.

hi I don't see why anyone would criticize you for nurturing at 5 months I neutered mine at five years i don't think there should be a preset time to do it I think your cat just healed very quickly because he was so young and probably very happy to be home and for the people who said he lost his manhood my cat is fixed and he still trys with my female cat
