Your Plecostomus is either curious or you need to turn down the temperature. Plecos get about 2 feet long, so it is in good shape in your tank. Depending on the tank temperature, it may be trying to cool down. Plecos prefer temperatures around 75 and often a little lower. Make sure your tank isn't boiling it!

are you talking about a pleco? if it seems like it is gasping at the top of the tank for air it may mean you dont have enough oxygen in the tank and may want to add more airstones. please specify what you mean by hitting its nose on the top of the tank.

There is no such thing as a pocomus as far as I know, but does the cover of you tank touch the surface of the water? If it does take out some water immediately, the fish has no air to breathe. Is the tank overcraowded? It sounds like a case of oxygen deficiency. Put in an air pump.

Do you turn your light off at night?
That might be the reason it goes up, because they are night active
You are suppose to turn off the light at night for 12-14 hours, and leave it on for 10-12 hours during the day
A timer would help for that as well

Hope that helps
Good luck
