(It's the weight that's stubborn, not the cat!) We have 2 cats. Frances came to us at the age of 5, already overweight. We think it was a combination of genetics and poor-quality diet before we adopted her. Our other cat Maggie is elderly and kind of thin, although she has access to all the food she chooses to eat.

Our problem is that we can't realistically feed our cats in 2 separate rooms or at 2 separate times (our home is small). For now, we have both cats on a low-calorie, quality food (Innova) that they both seem to like. But Frances has not lost any weight, and at the same time, we don't think it's a good idea to restrict Maggie's food. Is this the best we can do? Any other ideas for us out there? Thanks

I purchased the first female beta and later purchased another female beta. They flared up and started attacking each other. I've separated them but they can still see each other (they still are trying to kill each other). Can I put them in one fish bowl in a week or so or will they always be separated?

Hello all,
I have a cat that has been with me for four years now, and I've had him since he was 4 weeks old. I call him by his name, and whenever I do, he comes. But when my boyfriend calls him, it's as if he doesn't even recognize the same name. This is not the case with the dog, he responds no matter who calls his name. At first I considered that he just doesn't like him, but his behavior doesn't indicate that at all (it's the exact opposite surprisingly).
My boyfriend told me that it's because he doesn't really know his name, he is only responding to the tone of my voice and the way I say it. I find this hard to believe since he hears me talk all day, and only comes when I say his name, but since I am not an animal expert, I thought I'd ask, do cats recognize their names?

I am driving across the country in a few weeks. I am going from California to NJ and I'm taking my cats with me, as I am moving there. Are there any tips you could give me for traveling that kind of distance with two cats? Should I use sedatives? How do I do this successfully?

I have an indoor cat and last night I thought I'd take her outside to walk in the grass. This is only the 2nd time I've ever taken her out, but then she just walkked off into some bushes and behind a fence and I couldn't get her to come back. I called her all last night. Now she has been outside overnight and there's still no sign of her. How can I find her or get her to come back. I'm moving in 2 weeks, so I need to get her back soon. Any tips or tricks? Please help.

I'm leaving for vacation tonight and we'll be back on saturday..so that's 5 nights of her being alone. I changed her litter earlier so it's clean..I'm going to leave 4 huge bowls of food and 4 bowls of water...and i know she won't eat or drink that much, be we're just being safe. we're giving the neighbor a key to come over and make sure she's alright and to let her outside to play for a hour or so...and the neighbor will give her more food/water if needed. do you think she'll be alright? taking her w/ us is not an option..but we are taking the dog..so will my cat be alright?

My year old shepard mix dog has been throwing up since 4pm yesterday. He is throwing up white and clear bile... and I am not sure what to do. The vet is really my last resort because he gets very nervous and a little aggressive toward the vet when we go.

Last night he was throwing up every hour or so. Sometimes nothing would come out. I'd say he only threw SOMETHING up 5 times last night but he was gagging. And he has thrown up maybe 4 times today. He seems to start coughing/gagging when he gets worked up or barks...

Help PLEASE!

Seems there is always enough "money" when it comes to people stuff.
If you are short, charge it, borrow or remortgage your house.
"No money" doesn't cut it when it comes to YOUR dog!

We will be moving to germany and getting a dog there. We want a dog thats going to be smart(with training from us) and good for a future family. I want a big dog, like a sharpei (not sure on spelling), but I think he enjoys smaller dogs with more energy. Whats some good options for us?

I feed my betta twice a day. In the morning I feed him two Hikari Betta Bio-Gold pellets - here is a picture of it: http://www.aquatichouse.com/Fish%20Food_files/betta%20bio-gold.asp

Then in the afternoons I feed him a small chunk of frozen food. For the frozen foods I thaw the small chunk in a small amount of water for a couple of minutes.

Here is the schedule of his afternoon feedings:

Sunday - frozen brine shrimp

Monday - frozen blood worms

Tuesday - fresh batch of live black worms I get from a local pet store.

Wednesday - frozen blood worms

Thurday - the same live black worms.

Friday - frozen blood worms

Saturday - frozen krill

Keep in mind, I feed him the pellets every morning. For the black worms, the pet store gets a new shipment every Tuesday so I feed him a fresh batch on Tuesday, and then on Thursday where I throw out the remaining black worms.

He eats everything and still looks healthy and active..just want to make sure his diet is ok

Hi,
I was wondering could I add freshwater sand to my betta and 4 bronze cories in my 10 gallon aquarium? Currently it has 11/4" of natural colored gravel and a 10 gallon tetra whisper external power filter. I was thinking of added 2" of either black or natural colored sand for the cories to burrow in. Any advice would be very appreciated. Aslo, with sand, can I add any live plants?
