I am driving across the country in a few weeks. I am going from California to NJ and I'm taking my cats with me, as I am moving there. Are there any tips you could give me for traveling that kind of distance with two cats? Should I use sedatives? How do I do this successfully?

I have gotten my cats used to travelling, so I don't have any problems with it. Don't give them any sedatives, my cats sedate themselves after some time because they get dizzy from the car. My advice is:
1. Try to start the journey immediately after they have pooed and peed. My cats will go if I put clean sand and put them in the box.
2. have the litterbox handy in the car, if they meow much after a few hours stop, close the doors and windows well, let them into the litterbox because they may want to use it.
3. keep some kitchen paper or wet wipes handy, in case they throw up. Don't feed them before the travel, maybe give them just a little bit of dry food a couple of hours before.

How do your cats react when just traveling in the car to the vet? If they don't take it too well you might want to ask the vet to give you some kind of sedative; you are better safe then sorry it's best to avoid all distractions for the safety of you and your cats' GOOD LUCK!
