I'm leaving for vacation tonight and we'll be back on saturday..so that's 5 nights of her being alone. I changed her litter earlier so it's clean..I'm going to leave 4 huge bowls of food and 4 bowls of water...and i know she won't eat or drink that much, be we're just being safe. we're giving the neighbor a key to come over and make sure she's alright and to let her outside to play for a hour or so...and the neighbor will give her more food/water if needed. do you think she'll be alright? taking her w/ us is not an option..but we are taking the dog..so will my cat be alright?

She will be all right, but I strongly suggest that the neighbour MUST NOT LET HER OUTSIDE THE HOUSE. When you're away, she may panic or start looking for you, and get lost. Don't risk it.
Oh, and also there are some automatic feeders that keep the food fresh and release it gradually, so that she doesn't eat it all at once.
Just be careful that she doesn't get lost, otherwise she'll be fine.

oh yeah she'll be fine! We leave our 2 cats home alone when we go on vacation to. we do the same thing you do, only we just put 2 bowls of both. really, to be honest, we don't let our neighbors take care of them. We don't know them well enough. But we have a vacation every year at least once, and we've had our cats for about 3-4 years. They have been fine each vacation. Really, im sure all they do is sleep, eat and drink. Maybe play around a bit, but not a lot. Your cat will be fine don't worry at all! Have fun & Good Luck!

P.S. If your going to let a neighbor in, make sure the cat knows the neighbor. Your cat could freak out when someone she/he doesn't know is in the house.

I think, for the most part the cat will be okay. I would leave the cat inside the house, the neighbor isn't going to want to search for kitty if kitty is going off to explore, and if kitty gets lonely, she might run off and not come back.

I'm not sure if you clean the litterbox everyday or not, but if kitty is used to a clean box, she might stop using it if it gets too dirty, and that could start problems of her urinating and defecating outside the litter box, even after she has a clean box again.

As for food and water, since your neighbor is checking on the kitty everyday anyway, you might as well have the neighbor give her fresh food and water too - water can go bad, the food can get stale, its better for the kitty to have fresh food.

Just promise your neighbor a case of beer, or some souvenir , or whatever, and all will be good! Happy Travels!

Your cat should be just fine as long as you leave enough food and water for her and a clean litter box. Having the neighbor come and check on her is good provided it is someone you trust with your animals and your household. I have four cats and when I go out of town I have a friend come and look in on my animals and pick up my mail and newspapers as well. Have a good time. Also leave phone numbers in case of emergency.

I have done the same thing, leaving our cat for a few days and leaving her with lots of food and water. Our neighbor also came by to play with her a couple times of day and it seems to be OK. But by the time we came home, we could tell our kitty missed us and got lonesome, because she would follow us everywhere and just wanted to be hugged and all. We did that for 19 years. We're almost ready to get 2 cats this time, hoping they will keep each other company, when we do leave for a few days. I think your cat will be fine.

Make sure the gravity feeder is as full as possible and even put out a couple of bowls full as well. Clean your litter box out and probalby put out a second or third choice as well. Also if you have a large gravity water bowl fill it full about 3 gallons would be good but a plain bowl of water would get old and stale and he probaly will not drink it, also leave a tv or radio on for him. We leave our cats alone for 3 days every week in Sept and October they are fine as long as we do these things.

Get another litter box for her just in case the box gets too full. It will also help to encourage her to continue to use the litter box because she is going to be stressed enough with you being gone, you don't want to give her any excuse to potty someplace else. I would be tempted to not let her outside cause she may leave if she thinks that you are gone too. I never ever let my cats outside the house.

Deffinately. As long as someone is available to check on her once in a while there should be nothing to worry about. Cats are good like that. They can take care of themselves pretty well as long as there is plenty of food and water. But human interaction is deffinately a plus. But she'll probably be very happy to see you when you come home.

no you shouldn't leave the cat alone home what if it gets hurt or something happens to your cat . the cat shouldn't be left at home all alone ,take her with you or ask a friend to look after the cat but don't leave it all alone at home.

It sounds like your taking enough
precautions. You might look around
the house for anything dangerous.
Baby proof it. :)
