I have a very large and beautiful swordtail. Last night my husband noticed that his tail was gone.We have not noticed any of the other fish eating at his tail. His scales also look like they are coming away from his body some.He was so pretty and big, about 5 inches long. What is going on with him and are the other fish in danger?

I have 3 tanks right now and I would like to buy one super big tank to put all of the inhabitants in. Most of the fish are from central & south america. I would like to know what size tank I should save up for. I was thinking something around 180 to 225 gallons for them all to be happy.

Tank 1: 30 gallon, 2 pair of convict cichlids.
Tank 2: 36 gallon corner, 1 Huge Walking catfish (like 16 inches long by 9 inches around)
Tank 3: 55 Gallon, 1 half-grown Oscar, 1 Xingu Pike I (full grown at 7" x 3.5 around"

I'd like to stuff all of those guys in one huge tank. I would maybe like to get rid of the convicts & get 2 more walking catfish.

What size tank would be appropriate?

From what I read,
3 walking catfish can fit in a 55gal by themselves.
1 oscar should be in a 60 gallon by itself
The convicts fit perfect in opposite ends of the 30. They've been there about a year & a half & they're happy.
and the pike can fit just about anywhere... He's slender, not very flexible, & lazy.

I have an older dalmatian, about 12 years old, who has just been diagnosed with end-stage heartworms. He is a pretty big dog (about 100 lbs) and has lost a lot of weight so far. He's also got some arthritis and we switched him onto some high-grade dog food. Our vet said that prescription medication was out the question because as the worms died they would leave holes in his heart. Any suggestions or recommendations for treating him? Also, is walking him safe?

I am looking to buy a new saddle for my horse, who I bought about 4 years ago with all of her tack. Can anyone tell me maybe a good website to learn how to size her for a saddle? Or if you want you can just explain it yourself? I do not know how complicating it will be and for some reason I could not find a website on it. Also would it be possible for me to take my old saddle to the place where I am buying the new one and base the measurments on my old saddle? Any information would be great! Thanks!

Our dog licks himself; not in a perverted way but kind of like a cat. We also have a cat.

Okay here is what we want in a dog. We have two children ages 3 and 1. We want a dog that the kids can play with and we won't have to worry about the dog hurting the kids. We also want the dog to live inside, be easy to train, a dog that will come we we call it. We also like to go boating and fishing. We want a good easily traind dog that we can take with us places.

One of my house mates has a kitten, and made the mistake of leaving a candle burning while he fell asleep (Yes *I* know silly that was, but he said that he had just fallen asleep, and that's why the candle was still burning). In any case, his 9 week old kitten managed to knock the candle down and get himself absolutely Coated in the melted candle wax.

My house mate came and woke me up at 7am, when this happened, and I checked the kitten out. He's in no pain, no sign burns, not in shock, pulse seems normal... However, his fur is coated in wax. The candle was one of those big jar, scented candles, so it was semi-soft wax, not the hard wax.

I've told him to try using ice cubes to harden the wax up, then break it off; to try the hairdryer set on warm, with a cloth on the kitten to absorb the wax; to try warm as possible water; and also to try a petroleum based product such as mineral oil/baby oil, to try to dissolve at least some components of the wax.

Any other suggestions?

My hose that redirects my canister filter output to the bottom of the tank fell off yesterday & it ended up creating a circular current of air bubbles in the water, mashing them up & diffusing them in the water. The water has got millions of tiny air bubbles in it sorta like what you get when you pour hydrogen peroxide in the water. Could prolonged exposure to all of these tiny air bubbles harm the fish or irritate their gills? There's no way for them to breathe without getting some in their lungs. They're big fish (oscar & xingu pike) if that makes any difference.

My molly fish is biting all my baby fish and the other fish I already have in a tank. Should I take that one molly that is biting all the fish, out until the fish are grown a little? But I was wondering if it was alright to put him in a vase with no heater? Would that be good? Please Answer!

I have a 6 year old male Beagle. The vet thinks he should get his teeth cleaned due to the start of gingivitis. He eats dry Science Diet food. I vary his treats but they are all hard (Milk Bones, Dental Bone, and Greenies (not all in the same day :) ). I brush his teeth but not as often as I should. I really don't want to get his teeth cleaned since he has to go under and it doesn't seem worth the risk. I'm thinking a more frequent brushing will help eliminate the ginigivitis. Are there other vet cleansing options that don't require the pooch to be put under. Any advice would be great.

It seems the vet teeth cleaning seems overrated. Growing up my family had a Daschund and he lived to be 16, ate soft food and never had his teeth cleaned. My family currently has another Daschund, currently 14 years old, and again no teeth cleaning.

Thanks
MW
