fleas live in the carpet, furniture, dog bedding etc.they jump on the dog ( or you) to feed.
The general rule is for every flea on your animal there is 100 in the house. Therefore you need to also treat the house as well as your yard.

They live in all different areas. Some fleas remain on the dog constantly, while others just migrate to the dog primarily to feed, then moving back to a different place. Fleas can live in grass. Keep the grass short. Fleas are present only in shaded areas. They cannot be in the sun, otherwise they will die. So they hide between blades of grass, or even on the tips of blades of grass when under the shade of a tree. But most of the time, they are on the body of the dog.

Fleas can live in carpet, your bed, your dogs bed, pretty much anywhere that they have come into contact with. Your best bet is to treat the whole house as if it were infested just to be safe.

Yes, fleas, their larva and their eggs can live for many months in your carpets and bed etc, the only way to get rid of them is buying a product from your vet ( don't get the supermarket stuff - it isn't strong enough )

oh yeah! get them out of there.... There are flea powders and solutions for carpets and couches, pillows - etc - use them and don't let your dog on there for a few hours - the bottles will tell you what to do - but not only can they survive, but they can multiply at times too - get 'em out now.....

Flea eggs can survive for months in your carpet and pet's bedding, so you'll need to treat them with something to kill the eggs.
