I have a Siamese, a Burmese and a Burmese/moggie cross (cross, he's absolutely furious). I love the look of the abyssinian and the devon rex.
I have had moggies and pure breeds and although I love the way the breeds look, as far as personality is concerned, moggies win hands down. They are less likely to suffer from behavioural difficulties; health wise, they are robust and mostly bomb proof.
I also love the fact that you don’t know what you’re getting personality wise, so every moggie is a new experience.

Mainecoon. These cats are beautiful. They can be larger than normal cats.and have a lot of hair. However, they are very social, smart and are a lot like dogs (very good retrievers) . As someone who wanted a pet but who isn't ready for a dog (I live in the city.) this type of cat was perfect. Everyone I know who has experienced Mainecoon's has had a positive experience. (The only downside can be is that they can be prone to heart failure. So, if you do get a Mainecoon, have them checked out.)
Below is a link to some additional information about this breed. Good luck with your search!

hi I have a maine coon called matthew who is 7 months old and is the most loving cat I have ever met he looks just like a silver tiger with a mane and loves cuddles he sleeps cuddled into me every night and is great with my son who is 1 and a half. To me these are the ultimate breed of cats as they look like a wild cat but have the best personalities that you could ever ask for

I have one half persian and one half siamese (mummy in each case being a bit of a tart!!) Siamese are THE most raucous & intelligent cats - Persians the sleepiest & dimmest (Sorry!)
I'd love a cross between the 2 to get a slightly lazier but fairly intelligent mog - I think the British Shorthair is supposed to fit that requirement AND they don't need brushing every day!

If I had to choose a specific cat breed I would say a Maine coon.
We had a few come through our shelter. They let you hold them like babies. They don't mind water. They are very close to their humans and will often follow them. Maine Coons are often very gentle and affectionate. They are also total clowns and very playful. They are very large and the gentle giants of the domestic cat world.

I'm a moggy person really, none of my cats are or ever have been pedigree, mostly because they come with so many inbred health problems and why pay ££££ for a pedigree, when you can get a moggy for almost nothing...
