Hi! I've got a Platty who has already had a litter (I know that's not the right term, sorry) and that was about 2 weeks ago, at least. Now she looks like she's about to give birth again. The lady at petsmart told me about every 20 days they have babies... Is it true? What's the best way to tell when they're seriously ready to give birth, other than belly size?

Also, how old do the babies have to be in order to survive in a 55 gallon tank with the parents, Gouramis and Betta-Girls? (Plecos and corys won't harm babies, right?) There's one survivor from the last time my platty gave birth, and I'm just hoping my other fish won't eat him. (She spit them out while I was on vacation...) He's got a terrific hiding spot, and hopefully he won't get eaten... My Platty-Mom is in an incubator waiting very impatiently this time!

One more thing... My mom seems to think that Platties and Swordtails (or mainly ANY live bearers) will interbreed. Is this true?

Whenever I test the ph in my aquarium, it's always like 7.6-8.0, which seems awfully high. I can't determine what is causing the problem. I do a weekly 40% water change. I vaccuum the gravel as best I can, but I don't want to remove everything because otherwise my Cory won't have anything to eat. I feed the fish every other day, either bloodworms, brine shrimp or Tetleys flake food.

My aquarium is a 6 gallon and I have 4 fish in there now and don't plan to add any more. 1 female betta, 1 little albino cory and I added a couple little otos who help keep the algae in check. It's a marineland system 6 that came with a pretty powerful filtration unit that seems to do a good job. I've also added an airstone and a heater and keep the temp pretty steady between 78 and 83 (it goes up a bit during the day). I have a couple plastic plants and some smooth gravel. Fish all seem happy and energetic.

Maybe my tapwater is just naturally alkaline? I do treat it before adding it to the tank.

my rabbit is over a year old. her diet is comprised of mostly pellets (the dried vegetable type ones) and meadow hay. whenever i try to feed her vegetables she gets a bit of the runs, even though i only give her small amounts. how should i feed her vegetables? are they important for rabbits?

..I have 6 female wagtail platys, and they always seem to be hiding. If I look over at the aquarium, it seems empty - if I go right up to it, they usually come out (they think they are getting fed!)

They are always out at the top in the morning, and very active when I feed them, but once they've finished they hide away again...

They are often eating off the plants and gravel, but generally hiding.... is this normal behaviour for platys?

i have a cat that is pregnant, and she antecedently got lose outside well, while she was out side we kept the door open so she could come back in. 2hrs or so l8er we hear the HUGE meow, and i look out side and its this cat and my cat (there fighting) and when she came back inside after i broke the fight up, her entire body looked fat and the babies which are usually at their side have dropped to her belly, and im thinking that while she was in the fight her babies got killed, can someone please help me on this im really freaked right now.

I recently had an outbreak of ich in my tank. I purchased Nox-Ich at a local pet store and treated my 10gallon with half the recommended dose as i have some sensitvie fish present. Last night about 48hours after my first treatment of the tank i noticed that my Raphael Catfish was near the surface and gasping for air. I immediatly removed him from the tank and placed him in a one gallon with an airator. Half of his water in the one gallon is fresh the other half is from the old aquarium. This morning i got up and all over his body is long stringy like slim. It hangs from his body and extends about the length of his body. He seems to be doing better regarding gasping at the surface but this has me worried. I am new to tending to fish and would love some advice. Also i am treating my main tank for ich again today does anyone have any suggestions for making this easier for my other fish?

Well, we've all seen the questions where people are asking about their new designer dogs.

This is a good place to come up with a list of how NOT to get taken when buying a dog.

First of all, nearly all dogs are adorable when they are puppies. That's one of the reasons people are able to sell all of these new "designer dogs".

If your intent is to just have a dog as a companion there is no reason to spend $500.00 to $1,000.00 for a dog. Especially one that is a mixed breed. You are being taken advantage of BIG TIME.

A gallon of milk costs about $5.00 these days. If someone told you that the milk came from a "special" cow that was half something and half something else would you be willing to pay $10.00 for that same gallon of milk?

What are some other advice we can give people on how to buy a dog the RIGHT way?

ok so this question follows on to all my other questions about the shih-tzu that i am fostering now from the pet shop.
she has been bred non stop all her life and now is finally up for adoption. i am getting her familiariesed with everything. she doesn't even know what toys are!
now the owner has finally decided to take her to the vet and get her checked. she has an impacted eye which she has gotten drops & meds for but we will only know in a weeks time if she can still see.
then she has a hernia where the lining of her wall has a while & if the intestines come through it could kill her. now if this very likely! i think so but i really never had a situation like this before. and the vet said it can be fixed when she gets spayed which i want but i have to see what the owner wants. how much is a spaying normally? s'pore $?
now i am willing to take her for i emphasise NO $$ as i am not supporting this to then give her to a family who cares for her when she is well. likely non likely? tks

my guppie i just bought two days ago a swimming strangly and seteling at the bottem of the tank. its bearly moving and is kinda laying on its side. its tail fina is also very frayed and look like it has a chunk missing. my guppies is also a comunity fish and shares a tank with 2 other guppies one male one female a male beta and 3 neon tetras. someone help plz? is my fish going to die?
