Either a female or male make a nice dog as long as they are spay or neutered. Unless you have some BIG reason for not having them fixed, that should be top on your priority list. I have both a female and male dog and they both have good points. Each dog has their own personality and you will love which ever one you pick out. BUT, please....get them fixed so there are no puppies.

True, if you do get a female you will have to deal with them going into heat, however, if you get a male, you have to deal with their craziness every time there is a female in heat anywhere near you. Either way, you should have the dog spayed or neutered, it really is better for them unless you are planning on breeding the dog. Another thing that you have to deal with if you get a male is them humping everything! That is a hard habit to break!
I have a female. I had her spayed after her first heat (they usually want you to let them go through one before you have them fixed). I not only don't have to deal with all of that drama, but she was much calmer and better behaved after I had it done!

I think male puppies are good, not that female aren't but I cannot deal with the female in heat or when they get their period. If you get a female and not planning to breed her you need to have them neutered early. With males you can wait a little bit but if you wait too long, they mark and get aggressive. I need to have my 10mos old shihtzu neutered.

I think you should go for the female maltese! Although she may be a little more, there nothing else like them. Also, she can pay for herself if you decide to breed her.

I prefer males, you would not have to worry about them going into heat.

Well, you just have to keep in mind females go into heat, and if it is going to be a house dog, she will have to wear diapers and you will have to change them, just like when you have a period.

They would probably both be great the only difference might be the male marking his spot !
It is just a male thing!
Blastmaster, do you really neuter your females?
