Neutering and spaying generally increases an animals life span, prevents health problems and eliminates some territorial behavior.

It isn't as necessary with rabbits but certainly can help. You vet is the best judge of neccessity.

The main reason for pet neutering is to help control the pet population as far as dogs and cats are concerned, because many dogs and cats are allowed to run loose and breed.

In dogs and cats, it is sometimes also used to curb certain behaviors due to hormones.

However, with rabbits since they should be penned separately and not together it is not as necessary to have them neutered. Also, neutering a rabbit doesn't typically get rid of the behavorial problems. Many of the behavorial problems are due to actions the owner has made or due to the genetics of the rabbit. For instance, neutering won't tend to stop a buck that sprays pee from spraying pee. That is a genetic trait that is passed down from generation to generation, so rabbits that have that trait should not be used to breed with.

Be careful about giving you rabbit free roam, especially if you don't pet it a lot when it has free roam. Otherwise your rabbit could turn wild and mean. Rabbits that are given too much space can often become less friendly towards their owner.

Also, if you ever plan to show your rabbit, you will not be able to show it. The neutering would cause the rabbit to be disqualified in competition.

Neutering won't typically increase a rabbit's lifespan. Giving it clean water and the right feed and treating it properly will. To say that it prevents cancer in rabbits is bogus, rabbits rarely to never get cancer in their entire lifetime.

he will be more calm within 3 mos. after neuter. it also helps prevent certain types of cancer. as for chewing, rabbits need to chew to wear down their teeth. try giving him things like the cardboard rolls of toilet paper and paper towels, small boxes and old paper back books. the following website is great for rabbit owners. http://rabbit.org

Well... Generally a neutered pet is happier and quieter, they are less aggressive and he won't be hopping away to any other house looking for other rabbits.
