My dogs were brought up by cats and my cats brought up by dogs. I was brought up by both and I loved them all.

I use to always want a cat but yet I thought I was both a cat and a dog person. I finally got a cat and realized that I am not really a dog person. Since I've had my cat I like being around dogs less and less. My cat likes his alone time but he also likes his cuddle time! I think a dog would get on my nerves always wanting attention.

As a child growing up, we always had dogs in the house, but now having a house to run, a 4 year old and a baby on the way, a dog isn't for me right now, although we do kidnap my Mam's dog sometimes when we go out for the day and take him on big long walks.
As for cats, I never liked them much growing up, thought they were selfish creatures that only came to you for food and such, but when I met my partner he already had a cat and now we have 3 that I wouldn't swap for the world, they're just the right mixture of friendly companionship, but can be left to their own dvices should we be out all day. You couldn't leave a dog on its own all day, with a cat you can.
Therefore, my answer to this question is, I haven't got a preferred one, I like both equally for different reasons, and am thinking of getting a dog next summer to add to our mix!!

CATS
i have had cats around me my whole life-when i was a baby we didnt have a cat bt the neighbours cat used to pop round most days for a visit and apparently i wud crawl around cahsing it trying to catch it.
when i was 4 or 5 we got a rabbit and shortly after a cat
had one or more cats ever since
currently got 3
i think dogs r ok - i like some dogs but am afraid of some - was chased by a jack russell many times for about a yr coz it was running lose around my estate and it didnt go home much and no-one seemed to care about it.
it was quite vishous.
cats are amazing but i would like a dog maybe one day (spaniel maybe)

I like cats better cause they got their own head and unique personality. We do have a kitten and a dog. I always had cats, maybe that's why I prefer them. But dogs are nice, too.

dogs are more affectionate and a lot more work but also really rewarding cats are easy it shud really depend on peoples own circumstances as to weather they have cat or dog not as to wat they prefer if you are out the house alot or work then a dog wont get the attention it needs become bored and prob ruin the house personally i like both for a few years i did just have cats cos i was working and not in a position to care for a dog

Dogs. They are more friendly, cuddly and fun. I could live with a cat but I'd much prefer to live with a dog. I have a Golden Retriever, which is the friendliest breed of dog ever!!!! Anyways, Yep Yep. Dogs are my favorite animal.

Definitely cats! Dogs are so high maintenance and they are unable to function without humans. Cats don't seem to care if we're even in the room most of the time. I love their attitudes, independence and personalities.
