I want to know if any of the raw food advocates can find actual scientific evidence from studies which proves that feeding a raw diet is better for dogs than feeding high-quality kibble? I'm asking for actual research studies with the information from reputable universities, etc.

I don't want any hearsay. I want real, documented facts. If you can provide it, I'll stop telling people not to feed raw. But I'm still not feeding it to my dogs.

I have a pet tarantula and it has one of those hollow logs in it's aquarium. Well my tarantula burrowed an exit to the back through the substrate and kicked out a whole bunch of substrate out of the front and covered it with webbing.

I know a tarantula is not a reptile, but there is no spider section. So I figured I would go according to pet shop etiquette.

Now is this normal, or do I have a tarantula that is exceptional when it comes to engineering? And if it is normal, what on earth is she doing in there?

Today I took her for a walk and she was getting to jump on me but I caught her in time... She looked at me and I told her a strong sturdy "NO" and pointed toward the direction that we were walking and she LISTEN!!!! When walking back home, she didn't even put up a fight...

My question is: How long do I continue to give her a strong sturdy "NO" until she realize that I am the boss????

ok, i was rubbing my cats belly yesterday, and i noticed a bit of fecal matter (or something like that) below his rectum, caked on that area (dont know what its called) and his lower abdomen is swollen (that little area of flabby skin that hangs down between his legs) its also very sensitive.

he is a fixed, long haired, male, of unknown descent, 6or 7 years old. i think its a bladder infection, but what do you think. im making a vets appointment for tonight. i think well take him to the groomers to get his body hair shaved off (long time family strategy for long haired cats, talked to vet and cat psychiatrist said actually good for him) because we cant keep the knots off his furr no matter how much we brush him.

he has also had a mild case of hairballs.

Would you?

He is 19, almost 20. He has diabetes n I have to give him insulin 2x a day for the last yr and a half. Thats not a prob, but he also has allergies and is always got a snotty nose and that cant be great for him. He also starting blinking both eyes sporadically, like he has something in his eye but he doesnt.

The thing that makes me think its his time tho is that recently he started having seizures, shaking like a fish out of water while squirting pee. First the seizures happened monthly, then weekly, now more frequent. He is really shook up afterwards, but the thing that throws me is that after he seems ok eats and drinks normally, can walk around, purr, etc.

What would u do? Vets and people that work at a vet, and people who have had to put down a pet encouraged to answer.

I have a 12 year old german shepard/ akita/ rottweiler who is continually having coughing fits. About a month ago I took her to the vet with a 104 degree temperature and he prescribed me 2 rounds of clavomox. When she was on the medication she seemed to be doing better. However, she's finished the medication a few weeks ago and beginning to cough until the point of nearly throwing up or throwing up, depending upon if she's eaten anything within in the last hour or so.
I have no idea what to do other than worry that she may have cancer.

I've had countless recommendations to feed my dog organ meat. So, I bought some calf liver.

Is it good for him and why?
How should I make it?

FYI... I feed him Canidae lamb & rice formula dry food.

I will be visiting my local shelter/humane society next week to look for a kitten and want one that is very well socialized and friendly.

Eight years ago I got a sweet kitten from the pound (I still have him and he's neutered), but he tends to be the nervous type and is a little shy and withdrawn. He is really only comfortable around me.

What are things to look for when judging a kitten for temperament? What kinds of "tests" can I do while looking the kittens over? I know what to look for as far as health goes. Thanks!

My husband said I could get a kitten for my anniversary present - I'm so happy! My first inclination is always to check local shelters (this is where I got my 2 current cats - male and female tabbies both fixed) but this time my husband said I could get ANYTHING I wanted and I've always loved how Abyssinians look. Can anyone with personal experience of the breed tell me what their temperaments are like? I've heard conflicting things like "Abby's are NOT lap cats" and "Abby's are very affectionate."

I want a VERY affectionate and sociable kitten because we are a family with 2 young children, 2 cats and 2 dogs.

Also, does anyone know what a reasonable price is for an Abyssinian? I know he told me to "shoot the works" but I don't want this to be too expensive......

More 'new kitten - existing cat' questions from me! Sorry! :-)

I've just got a new 8 week old female kitten and the introductions to our 1 year old neutered male cat have begun...

At first he hissed like mad, but now the hissing has stopped. She is hissing and growling at him when he comes too close now, but he is silent and just watches her, then stalks / chases her. Today they were swatting each other with their paws kind of playfully, which I think was ok, but then he kept getting on top of her and trying to bite her round the neck.

I don't know if he was playing, trying to pick her up, or trying to hurt her? I just need some advice really as this is my first time doing this, and I get nervous due to her being so tiny and him being so big and rough!

Thank you so much for any advice!

xx Emmie

Looks gooey, but feels hard. The first time was September of last year. Vet said it looked like a wound from the other cat we used to have. It went away with triple antibiotic that the vet gave me. Now almost a year later and it's back. He is the only cat in the house now. What is it? Do I have to go back to the vet again?

I have a 5 year old shih-tzu, Charlie. He has some issues. He has separation anxiety really bad. About a week ago we had a really bad thunderstorm one night. Charlie went crazy. I have never seen him that bad over a storm. He was panting and breathing heavy and crying. He was pacing back and forth. Ever since that night he hasn't been able to relax at night. He cries every night now. As soon as I get into bed. Usually he just sleeps at the bottom of the bed. I tried ignoring him but it's been a week and nothing has changed. I am not getting much sleep. If anyone has any questions please help. Thanks
