My previous female cat loved playing fetch with scrunched up balls of paper.
Our current female enjoys the game too, but she prefers cable ties and drops them next to me on the sofa so that I can throw them. You only have to say the word "toy" and she gets excited because she knows we're going to play fetch.
Our male cat shows no interest in this game whatsoever.

Our kitten Kallisti does it now. She is never ending with it to the point of it almost becomming annoying. She can play fetch for hours and hours and if you dont pick up the mouse/paper/foil/ball when she brings it back she will mew and claw till you do lol.

Definitely... I have had two cats that have done that. The first would fetch a small ball back to me and wait for me to throw it again and again.
The second cat I had that like to play fetch would go mad for scrunched up packing tape that I used to get hair off the furniture.. as soon as he heard the tape getting scrunched up he would rush to me and beg to play with it and fetch it over and over.

LOL! Absolutely they can although most cats have no interest in it. I had a kitten once who would play fetch with a little fur mouse. Unfortunately she grew out of this habit at about one year old. Enjoy it while you can! :-D

I have two Tonkinese cats that have both taught me to play fetch with them. One likes wadded up wrappers from mini york peppermint patties. The other likes coiled up pipe cleaners. They will play fetch with them for hours.

Yes, some cats do play fetch. it's mostly just a ploy to get your attention. My youngest cat plays fetch a lot... mostly for treats or pets.

Oh yes they can. Wow, brings back memories. I had a little black cat named Shadow and she would play fetch with me.

Yes. They can play fetch and learn many other "tricks". (Siamese and other "Oriental" breeds are particularly easy to train.)
If a cat is properly motivated, and the training is positive and reward-based, a cat can be taught to do as many tricks as a dog can.

I had a cat that would do that with a empty rolled up sandwhch bag. Put some catnip inside and seal it w/a lighter.
