Bettas will only attack other Bettas or fish that look like Bettas (long, flowing fins). The newt will likely eat the Betta though. What kind of newt?

i would be more worried about the betta than the newt. a lone male betta makes a good community fish. however i think newt eat fish, and bettas are small enough to be eaten. also aren't newt cold water animals? bettas do best in 80 ish degree water.

Okay,
for all you people thatsaid you cant keep bettas with anythin else your wrong, they wont attack anything they see, they only fish they will attack are other bettas or fish with long finnage such as a fancy male guppie. dont get mad at me im just corretining your wrong thoughts!! i would worry about the newt eating the betta than the betta attacking the newt. i would put a couple of feeder goldfish (you can get them at petsmart for 30 cents for the bigger ones) just to see if you newt will attack them if it doesnt then go on and add more expensive fish.

I wouldnot recomend putting the beta with the different fish in the event that they're smaller and have longish flowing fins. if that's the case then dont becuase betas have a tendency to think of that they are different betas, that's intimidating, or they only desire to conquer up the different fish becuase it basically desires to chew the fins. If the different fish are larger then it's going to be advantageous because of the fact that is going to comprehend that that's now no longer the alfa and cant %. on them. The tank additionally must be sufficiently enormous so as that the beta wont be desturbed or something like that. Guppies and goldfish do bypass mutually advantageous thiugh, they're basically grimy styles of fish.

bettas are very territorial, they will eat the newt, or just kill it. I don't know any other fish that will be able to survive with it, because i think newts eat some fish.
