we brought a nine week old westie puppy who we've called ollie about a week ago and the lady who was not a breeder said that he had a pedigree but she hadn't bothered to register him as she wanted the pups to go as pets only does that sound right to you? i only ask as there has been a problem about his vacination cert as well.we have had him checked by vet and he's healthy we only wanted him as a family pet and are not bothered about a pedigree but i think there's something dodgy about her.she only had one male pup left but is now advertising again with more westies.
what do you think?
thanks abbey.

I got a 9 week old kitten at the weekend and am planning on taking her to the vet in the next couple of weeks for a check up. My question is, what can I do (worm, flea treatments, etc) and what should I be expecting the vet to do (injections etc)?

Thanks!

My cat has been acting weird for the past week. She hasn't been coughing, but she'll occasionally hack really bad. She's not as playful anymore and her eyes always seem big. She purrs as if she's nasal. When she tries to meow, nothing comes out. I don't really see her eat unless it's wet food. I took her to the vet, and they tested her but said they couldn't find anything. I know my cat, and I know there is something wrong with her. And they said it would pass.

I have two wonderful cats (my kids) who I have had for 3 and 2.5 years. They are strictly indoor cats. I would like to adopt a puppy-- specifically a German Shepherd. It would be an indoor/outdoor dog. I am concerned that the dog would harm my cats (whether in play or deliberately). To add to my worry, the cats are both declawed. Has anyone had large dogs and cats at the same time with success?

We introduced them he proper way, buthe can never be in the same room, they fight really aggresively and we can't stop them. Till now they have been seperated from each other COMPLETELY. Which is very tiring. what else can we do??

I read somewhere before that we shouldn't buy fish of the same species in a pair. The idea is that one of the fish will be more dominant and bully the weaker one. This will cause stress in the weaker fish.By having more than 2 fish, the bullying will be more distributed and not focused on just one fish. This reduces stress on the weaker ones.(It was also said a pecking order will be established in the species.)Thus,it was recommended to buy just one fish or more than 2,never in a pair. What do you think?

I'm probably going to end up taking this three day old pup to the vet because he won't eat and I've tried everything I could think of. This pup happens to be the pick of the litter from the stud owner. It's kind of a complicated situation but I'll explain:
I took my girl out to be breed when she was ready. The boy they had was a perfect male and the two of them hit it off EXTREMELY well! She slept in her kennel and he'd sleep on the outside of it just to be next to her. He was really protective of her and they sort of "fell in love" so to speak. I payed the stud fee up front and took her home. The day I took her home the stud boy went crazy looking for her, tearing up his pen and digging to get out. He had never done this before but he finally got out and ran up the road after us and got hit by a car and died. Out of pity, I told the stud owner that she could have her pick of the litter for free.
Since this is her dog now, does she pay vet bills that this pup is going to have?

Can you suggest sea creatures, corals, sponges etc. that could possibly be made to look like bathroom fixtures.
for example an open shell with an oyster in it can look like a soap case...a largish coral can be made to look like a bath tub.

How much should a 10 week old puppy sleep? She sleeps through the night for about 6 or 7 hours, but also a long time during the day. Should I keep her in her cage and let her sleep until she barks? Should I keep her out with us and keep her bed available? Should I try to keep her up during the day so she'll sleep longer at night?

I know this question has been asked before, and only a few minutes ago for that matter, but my situation is unique! Every night my cats are put outside for the night, but early in the morning my cats will come to my window and scratch at it to come in! My bed is right in front of the window, and they make this terrible sketching sound while scratching! I've tried ignoring many times before, and all they do is meow! When i keep my cats in my room at night they'll wake me either earlier or at the same time by scratching under the door. I already have a spot where there is no more carpet and the landlord is pissed! When i keep them on the other side of the door they'll scratch then too, and it's not an option to keep them out there at night anyway because they spray in the house. They're getting fixed ASAP but for the moment, what can i do? We aren't getting rid of him, that's for one thing! and I'm not changing my room because they'll figure that out QUICK.

We've got a 12 wk old pup (Australian Kelpie X Ridgeback) that is too young for dog training (16wks) but we've been training her at home. We have just over an acre block, with farm type fencing so this pup needs to be trained well. I agree with Ed Frawley's training method (see link) of using prong collars, I think if used correctly they inflict much less damage than remote collars or chokers.. yet my husband thinks it's unnecessary and cruel. This dog is growing large quickly and with three small kids I really want to train her effectively.. what do you think?
(Pls no smart alec comments about sterilising our pup.. she will be done, as all our animals are, when she's old enough.)

You know how dogs have certain habbits, reactions, independence, how well they train...stuff like that and maybe more..If you know of any links please let me know!!

I'm getting an Afghan Hound puppy in 10 weeks and I'm already getting ready to look into getting another rare breed puppy to show.

I am thinking about getting a Borzoi or Saluki and as different as they are, really like the Dalmatian, Clumber Spaniel and the Old English Sheepdog. Has anybody got any experience with those breeds? If not/if so, what is your personal favorite breed of dog? I would like a slightly rare and exotic breed but nothing that's going to take me more than 5 years to find a show quality pup. I don't want anything popular like a Labrador or German Shepherd and I want a large dog, not a small dog. I might look into medium sized dogs, if I like them.

I am up for any challenge that owning this new dog will throw at me - I mean, I'm getting an Afghan!

Cost, exercise, grooming, training, size does not worry me at all.

Is a tropical environment too advanced for a beginner like me? I was thinking about acouple livebearers, glassfish, and platys. If it is, I might go with fantails, tiger barbs and red rosy minnows.
