I don't know about canine epilepsy but I did find some websites that might help you and I have listed them below.

We had a dog with seizures, but not epilepsy. I did a lot of research as his seizures became worse and I found that some breeds are more prone to have seizures, for example beagles. Depending on the epilepsy, the meds usually help control the number and severity of seizures fairly well. Our dog's seizures just started developing a couple years after we got him (he was a shelter dog) and progressed until he died. Our vet said she suspected that because the meds didn't control the seizures he probably had a brain tumor that caused them.

I had a puppy with epilepsy. The seizure began whilst he was once approximately one million one million/two years ancient. They had been almost always caused via pleasure. I stored a log of each and every episode so we would verify frequency, severity, and what caused them. When it acquired to the factor in which he was once having one million or extra a month, we positioned him on Phenobarbitol. He was once groggy in the beginning from the meds, however the vet adjusted the dosage and as soon as he acclimated to the cure, he was once the equal puppy as earlier than. He was once on Phenobarb for approximately 5 years after which a brand new vet urged we take him off considering over LONG intervals of time, it's going to rationale liver harm. We took him off and discovered he had outgrown the seizures. In the following 5 years he had most effective 2 petit mal seizures, which was once only a shaking of the pinnacle. He lived to be eleven one million/two and died of kidney failure which was once now not involving the epilepsy or to the cure. He was once a first-class puppy with one of the vital sweetest temperaments I've ever noticeable.

It's pretty common, a know a lot of epileptic dogs. Apparently beagles, dachshunds and german shephards are the most prone to it, but personally I've seen it most in collies. I read once that epilepsy is actually more common in dogs than it is in humans, with up to 5.7% of domestic dogs thought to suffer from it, which is quite a high figure.
