Is there some sort of dominant chromosome that makes black cats female? I know about four or five people that have had black cats (including me) and they were always female.

I just tried checking out some information on the FIP virus on the net, but I got way too many different answers. I adopted my cat Prince a couple weeks ago, from our local SPCA. I just found out that one of the cats that was housed with Prince died from it.. I am so scared for my little boy! Is it very contagious or contagious at all? This cat was adopted out in November, and he was diagnosed last week with FIP and died shortly after. I'm scared my little boy is going to get this. Since Prince and "Thomas" (cats name) were housed together for several months. Does anyone have some information on it?

Cats often swing their heads around to sleep on the back of their heads. Why do they do this?

I went on vacation for about a month and had no other choice but to leave my hamster with a friend who has a cat. I asked her to keep my hamster in a separate room and not let the cat in. I just got my hamster back and she is not acting the same. She barely comes out of her den, she doesn't seem to be eating (she also seems skinnier), she's not her normal friendly, curious self and she's always on alert when she is out and about. I figured this was because she was in a different environment but I now found out that my friend's boyfriend would often leave the door to the room open and the cat would sit on top of the cage I guess trying to get at her.

Is there anything I can do to help her destress? What should I do if she doesn't start eating again? Should I just give her time and hope she realizes she's safe again?

One thing I know, I'll never have her in a house with a cat again.

I've had my Golden Retriever for over 9 years now, and within the past year or so, he has gotten really protective with his bones. If I even pet him while he laying near his bone, he'll start growling. Also, I used to take him for car rides, but now he won't get out of the car when we get back to my house. He gets really stubborn and growls when I try and pull him out with a leash. He has never bitten me. He is a great pet. But has soon as he has something he thinks I want, he gets mean. We have never mistreated him. I give him love and attention all the time. I don't understand why he is doing this, especially being a breed that is known for their kindness. How should I fix this problem?

Alright I'm not scared of mice, just mice that aren't in a cage! Allow me to explain. I moved into my apartment a couple months ago. There was no problem at that time. But we later learned that the pervious tenants were very angry about being kicked out, so they released their fancy mice in the house. The mice started breeding. have caught 6 of the little buggers. But I'm starting to get scared of them. They were running across my feet, (kid you not), one of them jumped up at me. All of this always happens first thing in the morning, they are the craziest mice I've ever seen. And they are on to me catching them (lol). Conspiring against me, only coming out at night, ignoring mouse traps, making little scuttling noises across my bedroom floor while I'm sleeping (hardwood floors) I'm not sure what to do. Help advice please! Also I can't stand the sight of them dead I get filled with guilt. I know stupid. My guys in Iraq so I can't have him come over & take care of it for me! HELP!

Alright, I have a 1 and a half year old cat, he's a bit over weight, not too much though. Hes started sneezing a lot, well its not that much maybe like 3 sneezes a day, but it still worries me. I'd take him to the vet, but I am really broke, money is really tight right now, and I just want to know if theres anything I can do before having to take him to the vet. We used to smoke in our house, and when he started this sneezing we started to go outside for his sake, just in case that could be the problem.

It is very cold here but when he has been out for maybe 5 minutes to do his business and we bring him in, he has difficulty climbing 5 stairs. He is not an old dog about 3 years old. Border Collie and something else. After he is in the house for abit then he is fine.

I already have a dog but i've narrowed it down to 2 things..

1. I can get a house turtle, which i've never had before (I hear they live a long time.. so that's def. something I wanna get)

2. A hamster, I used to have one but I returned it after a week because, when I put it in a cage, it would scratch the walling of it's cage and it would irritate me and for some reason, I would itch REALLY bad when I heard that sound lol..

Anyways, I want to know if a turtle would be a good Idea to get, but I need help with a couple of things, I need to know EVERYTHING about caring for a red-eared slider
I also want to know if they die easily?
I need to know what kind of tank to get it.. all that stuff, what to feed it..

BUT MOST important I need to find a way to pursuade my parents to let me keep one? I'm thinking of presenting them with a full report about turtles, to show them i've thought deep and hard about this.

anyways, I need some opinons/advise/help

My friend just called me and asked if her Yorkie(female) could be pregnant by a Pitbill(male). She said Yorkie nipples were red and she looked fat. I didnt think so. I could not see how that could be possible. After searching on the internet I saw similar situations but with Large Female dogs. Can this happen? Any advice would be appreciated.

I have two adult cats. This isn't a new issue but it just makes me wonder. We have one cat box that they share and it's one with a cover over it. My male cat refuses to use the box with it's cover on and will do his business on the floor in front of it. Anyone have some insight to this issue?? We do keep it clean but it just baffles me.
